Perfect for my PS3 Super slim.

MaxMarch 11, 2014

Some people wonder if this hard drive will work on their PS3. Let me assure you, this hard drive will work on any PS3, and even the PS4. Bought this hard drive for my PS3 super slim. Works perfect. Only thing though for the PS3 super slim, is that you need to buy your own hard drive mounting bracket as the super slim does not come with one because the hard drive already in the super slim is not actually a hard drive, but flash memory. Thus, the reason why I bought this hard drive. Would recommend this very exact hard drive to anyone looking for a good, cheap hard drive for their ps3. Read more

5k750 is a good drive, just not as good as the 5k500b

KukMay 26, 2011

I was temped by this new drive, with having such a great experience with two Hitachi Travelstar 2.5" 500GB 5400RPM SATA II 8MB Cache Internal Hard Drive 0A57915 in terms of noise, power consumption and temperatures, i decided to try the 5k750 for a new low powered build. The drive performs fine, i would even say feels faster than 5k500b, but its not as quiet as it, there is a slight high pitch noisy when it seeks (pls take in account that i dislike noisy hdd, average user might not notice it that much or be bother by it). Another thing is that this drive doesnt work good with my USB2 enclosures, it needs dual USB plugs for it to start and even then it vibrates much more than 5k500b. One last remark, the drive has done a couple wierd noises, nothing that i have heard before or no way to reproduce it. Overall i should just gone with 5k500b, its a proven drive, i didn't needed the extra space nor the extra noise, but thats what you sometimes get into gambling with new products. Again this drive might be great for most people, but for me its not as good. If you don't need the extra space of this drive, just go with 5k500b, its to me, the best atm for 2.5 low powered, low noise, low vibration, and decent performance. Edit 7/9/11: I replaced the 5k750 from the PC with a 5k500b, and working like all my other 2, really good drive imo. Out of not wanting to waste this drive, i bought an MSI Coolmax External Enclosure with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Connection HD-250TN-U3 (Silver) , the drive performs really well there, with up to 100Mb/s transfers writes (not always, read my review of the enclosure), its almost silent as portable drive, gets slightly warm inside the enclosure but nothing to worry, i dont feel it vibrates much anymore, pretty much even with 5k500b, so im uping to 4 stars as i feel its a good drive just not as good as 5k500b for an OS drive. Meh.

PaulMay 25, 2011

I put this HDD inside a MacBook Pro 15" Core i5 2010. It works. I built a system using the Western Digital Scorpio Blue as well. Noise comparisons? WD Blue is quieter in general. However, the sound that happens when the heads park for going idle, the WD Blue really annoys me. The Hitachi is less annoying for parkings heads. However, it is slightly noisier in normal operation and HDD seek noises are louder. For a $10 difference, bet the Scorpio Blue or Black if using the MacBook Pro. Seagate Momentus XT issues have not been resolved for Macs, AFAIK. Read more

Great Hard Drives - Excellent Performance & Capacity

Daddy X3April 5, 2011

Replaced 2 Hitachi hard drives in my HP laptop, thereby doubling the space. The swap was fast, easy and problem-free. Thus far, no problems with performance or reliability, and heat/noise haven't been an issue, and battery life doesn't seem to have been affected. So far so good! Read more

Upgrading a fat PS3? READ THIS

anonymousJuly 19, 2012

Just a quick word of warning for those planning to use this as a PS3 upgrade hard drive - It does NOT work with the older "fat" PS3s. It only works with the newer slim PS3s. On a "fat" PS3, it begins the initial autoformat, then the system shut restarts midway, but the system will be frozen and unusable. At that point, if you remove the hard drive, enclose it in an external case, and access it from a computer, it will only show 196 GB of space, despite being brand new! (I used a factory-brand new 80GB PS3). Based on 4 other reviewers, it appears to work just fine with the newer slim PS3s. I even tested this on a PS3 slim and confirmed that it works without any problems. I'll have to defer to the other users to review other aspects of the hard drive, since the Hitachi drive I had was never able to function properly for its intended purpose. Prior to purchasing this, I had done my due diligence by reading all of the Amazon reviews and saw 4 other PS3 upgrade successes, but it wasn't until much later that I discovered that this hard drive is just not compatible with older PS3 models. Hope this will save a lot of buyers from headache and troubles! (Disclaimer: Why did I give this 4 stars? Because one has to select something when posting a review, so to be fair, the hard drive had an average rating of exactly 4 stars from many buyers, so I went with the average. My purpose was to warn other PS3 upgraders, not to disrupt the average review score.) Read more

Flawless

Smilin SamFebruary 19, 2015

This is the same model HDD that came in my Lenovo V570. I've run it almost daily for four years and it's still going strong. I never abuse my computers, but I don't just surf the net and check emails either. I do a lot of audio editing, and I also rip DVDs, which is CPU intensive and tends to generate a lot of heat in the laptop, even with a cooling pad, which I always use. I decided to purchase a few of these as emergency extras for down the road, "just in case". But at this rate...they might just end up sitting in the box on the shelf for a long time. I can't attest to whether or not this HDD is the fastest, but I can say it's one of the most reliable. And for me, at this price, it's a big win. And who knows...since I have some extra 2.5" USB 3.0 HDD enclosures, I just might pop these in and have some cheap, easy, reliable USB external drives for data storage/backup. Read more
