I had read the reviews and they all mentioned it being noisey or a lot did I am so happy that they were not right. It is not noisey. It does make a noise but it is not terrible. I ran it on the highest for 8 hours to help clean out the room and I was able to do everything with no problems in the noise area. I love it, has really done a great job did not need to use my inhaler or my nose spray. I could breathe. I got the big one after using the small one in my bedroom. I love both and am very impressed with the way they worked. This is a great unit and does a great job. The filters last a long time and the small one is easy to put in, the others are in a pack that is together I had heard some bad things about putting together the filters but not a problem. I am glad I got it and decided to go with the good reviews. If you need clean air and can handle some noise from the unit this is a great one. It sort of sounds like a fan is going I would say but it is not real bad noise. Love it very much. Read more

I received my Holmes 4 weeks ago and it has been on nearly 24 hours a day since. Knock on wood, so far it has been working perfectly. Some people have complained about noise factor. I think it is unlikely that you can have an air movement device with the motor and fan blade in the same room and not hear it. A home central air unit is usually in the garage, closet or attic, therefore your not likely to hear the noise from the motor and fan and the air from it comes into you room by ductwork. Nice and quite. Even on high speed I feel that the Holmes is quite enough for the amount of air that it moves through it. I place the unit in our bedroom at night and set the speed on 2 or 3 and don't notice it being on. yes you can hear it, but it is moving air, all from one unit. The filters in it look like they should stop the smallest of particles. I am very well pleased with the Holmes so far but I am aware that it is made in China. I just hope that I stay satisfied. shipped fast. we bought 2 of these. one for my bedroom and one for my living room. although they are loud on 3 or 4 setting, I ike it. i find the blowing sound to be calming, like white noise. the air is considerably fresher and the dust level has gone down. my prior air cleaner was a Hunter and to be honest, I think the Hunter worked better and the filters were half the price of the Homes Hepa ones. each unit takes 3 hepa filters and 3 carbon filters. the cost is quite high so be prepared for the cost every 6 months! nice unit and black color makes it not such an eye sore but just keep in mind, the filters are easily found, just very expensive! It doesn't last forever, probably, but it lasts long enough. I got this when I did a huge clean down of my older unit of similar design from about 1997 that I ran 24-7-365 on medium to high until 2018. I'd consider that a good value. The previous unit I basically ran a few sets of the OEM designed filter in, and then cut up filtrete 2000+ filters and carbon pre-filters and duct taped in them into the filter bay area with excellent success. This current unit is bigger than my previous one and filtrete appears to now make filters that fit into this - but only at wallyworld are they available. So far this has a super noticable improvement in our sleeping, and keeping me from being super stuffed up from my allergies that are anything but seasonal. Once a week we clean off the foam pre-filter (which my old unit didnt have - would have saved a ton of money!) and check the carbon "secondary" filters" that sit on the primary filters. These should be changed about once a month if you run it constantly - I've noticed that I start to get stuffy after sleeping and swapping these has helped. you can buy cheaper carbon filter media and cut it up if you're cheap or buy a multi-pack just about anywhere. I bought this for my son's bedroom, because of the positive review by Consumer Reports.org, and so far it has helped quite a bit. The filter monitor is unreliable at best, but that is really meaningless when you can easily open the thing up and look and see if the filter is dirty. it is noisy on the higher settings, but on the lower settings it can be in teh room with you while you sleep, or watch TV with out any bother, and on the lower settings it still moves enough air to be doing some good. I am not affected by allergies, however my son says it does help. So far as reliable, I have had the unit I bought running continously for 4 years now, I change the carbon filters every six months, and the HEPA filters once a year. Its reliable, it does take up some space, and it is not silent, but if you arn't moving air, you are not filtering air, and moving air isn't silent. Read more

We own two air purifier. The previous model which is white, and this one. They are basically similar on many levels. The white air purifier in my opinion does better with pets. We have two cats and the way the vent works on the white machine allows the hair and dander to go through the machine and trap it. Yes, this means you do you need to vacuum it more often and replace the filters a bit more often. This model works pretty much the same way, however, this model has an extra screen and the vent holes are smaller which prevent bigger particles to enter and be trapped by the filters. With this set up, I notice I do not have to clean it as much but the down fall is that I have hair ball dust around the machine, so I am sweeping a bit more often to pick up the remaining hairs that was not able to get pulled by this machine. Amazon still sells both... if you do not have pets, this one would be recommended. If you do have pets, I encourage you to get the white one while they are still available. https://www.amazon.com/Holmes-Cleaner-Eliminator-Digital-Display/dp/B000C173W0/ref=sr_1_42?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1545162292&sr=1-42&keywords=holmes+air+purifier&refinements=p_89%3AHolmes Read more
