It works pretty well and it's simple and easy to use. But I'm very pleased to report that this also works without the app as well. When you first power the device on, it goes into a pairing mode. Pressing the button again puts it into low, then medium, then high. Then it cycles through all of the different patterns. If you turn the device off and then back on, it returns to the start.
