This honing rod is awesome! Sharpens all of my knives very well. Some heavier knife blades need more angle to get the edge, but that’s fundamental. Strong tool. Read more
It only has longitudinal cutting edges so it only sharpens moving it sideways to the axis of the shaft. I wanted a rough surface sharpener that would sharpen serrated knives by sharpening the sides of the tips, but this won't do that without cutting down the tips. It is good for knives with a lot of curve, though, so still useful to me. Still give it five stars since it may have been my fault not reading the description, and it is very well made. So far, I have received two of these honing rods. The first was in such bad shape, I was sure it was supposed to have been pulled by Quality Control for destruction, but was somehow missed. it was badly pitted, marred, and gouged. Even the grip hanger was not properly glued and popped out. I immediately emailed their customer service and included photographs. I received a response that same night with apologies and the promise of a replacement being shipped. The second honing rod arrived 7(+) days later. It is in much better shape, but still shows some pitting. I would not feel comfortable using this honing rod on medium to high-end knives. On a positive note, customer service with this company is outstanding. Their response time was absolutely amazing. On the other hand, quality control leaves much to be desired. Based on the sketchy quality control, I cannot recommend this honing rod at any price. Read more
