Having read many reviews, I expected an unpleasant smelling mat that I would have to air out for weeks. But the mat I received was harmless. After the first use my hands smelled a bit like rubber, but that was it. At about five foot nine I bought the extra large mat. It’s somewhat heavy, but unlike my previous mats this one never feels too short or too narrow. To clean the mat I dip a body brush (without handle) into warm water and brush the mat, then pat it dry with a towel. That only takes five minutes. Practicing on this thick, sticky mat is a joy. I hesitated a bit on buying this because it is fairly expensive, but I trust this brand and I really wanted an extra large yoga mat and this definitely fits the bill. It is fairly heavy, So it's not great if you're hauling it to and from a studio all the time, but if you can leave a mat at your studio and or you just want to use this at home, it's excellent otherwise. It seems really high quality and very durable. It's not super squishy but it does provide good support and as I mentioned I do really like the extra large size. Some people have mentioned a smell on arrival -- It did have a modest rubber smell when I first got it, but it pretty quickly disappeared after I let it air out. Read more

I only just got the mat, so I can't tell you it's durability but it seems solidly built. Being an extra long and wide mat and being made of rubber it's a little heavier than the PVC mats. That said, I like that when I eventually toss it out, it will decompose not be a bunch of plastic bits that will never degrade. Sticky? yes, both sides, and until my hands get really wet from sweat I do fine. Thick? At a 1/4th inch it's as thick as they sell them. I do use a towel for my knees in some poses but then so does most of the class. Long & wide enough? Yes I'm 6'1" and it's nice to overhang both ends of the mat. The extra size of the mat is well worth it if you are tall. Expensive? Yeah, it's probably one of the most high dollar mats out there, but if you amortize it over the life of the mat, and a lifetime of yoga sessions, it's cheap compared to the gym membership, or even the gas to drive to the gym. I normally use a B-Mat yoga mat (strong long) for hot yoga. It measures 85" x 26" and gives me plenty of length and solid rubber grip (100% rubber Made in Spain). I decided to look for alternatives seeing that this XL B-Mat seems to be "sold out" everywhere so I came upon the "Hugger Mugger Para Rubber" because it's the only other "all-rubber" XL mat around. This XL doesn't compare with B-Mat; it measures 78" x 28"...those 7" of length really count! I'm 5'11" and my feet are often off the back edge. The extra 2" of width didn't really make a difference. What I noticed was halfway through a hot yoga session, I started to feel like I was slipping and had to compensate with putting a yoga towel down for traction. This is not how I like to practice. I generally like my mat to grip my practice. Also...it's not a given that the Hugger Mugger is 100% rubber made in Taiwan. Could it be the quality of rubber? I'm not sure but the extra $$$ for this mat is just not worth it unfortunately. Read more

This is an excellent mat. I also own the smaller version which is identical just smaller. Great cushion and stability. Super sticky. First couple of classes it was a tad slippery when really wet from sweat but that didn't last but a few classes. I love this mat. Equal to the quality of jade fusion but at a much better price point. I've also practiced on manduka pro mats and I prefer the hugger mugger para hands down. Great company. Don't hesitate. Read more
