I previously purchased Excel Pure water filters from Amazon for my Kenmore refrigerator, and there was a minor installation issue / annoyance with them. There is a plastic piece that holds the butt end of the filter. You slide the plastic piece over the filter end, turn the assembly until the plastic piece is facing the 12:00 to 1:00 position, insert, push slightly and turn clockwise. The plastic piece ends up being parallel to the floor (pointing at the 3:00 and 9:00 positions). The install on the Excel Pure brand didn't go that easy. I tried the method noted above and couldn’t get the assembly to lock in place. I didn’t want to push for fear that I would crack or damage something inside the refrigerator. I first thought the filter might be too long, but it was the same length. I then oriented the old and new filter in the same manner and laid them side by side. The problem was immediately evident. The locating tabs / tangs near the tip of the filter were offset a few degrees from the OEM filter. This meant that I had to rotate the filter until I felt the tabs ease into place. When all was said and done, the assembly had to be inserted at the 10:00 position and after locking into place, the assembly was pointing at the 1:00 position. This orientation change may be a big deal to folks who don’t take the time to figure out why something isn’t working, as they very well could damage their refrigerator if they try to force it. The reason why the tabs are offset is a mystery, and you may (possibly brand dependent) get a replacement that is slightly different than OEM. The good news is that the Ice Pure brand is just like OEM. They lined up perfectly on my Kenmore refrigerator. There were no fitment issues, and I plan to buy a few more to have them ready when needed. Read more

These are the water filters that “plug in” below the door of the refrigerator to filter water to the ice maker and cold water glass filler. Remember to run off about a quart of water after the filter is changed to flush out any loose filter media, and air, so it doesn’t “spit” into the first glass of water after the filter change. Using this for a Kenmore Coldspot 106. EDR6D1 filter OEM part. Thought it was the wrong size until I read another reviewer said he had to turn it with a lot of force. I could not get it to screw in properly using my hands. Ended up using a wrench to really crank on it, and counter clockwise at that-finally heard the water wooosh through it. The OEM part is nearly 50 bucks so this is a great deal for 3. Did have to water a few plants with foggy water until it finally cleared up. I was about to get water service, I’m happy this worked. We have an older generation Whirlpool fridge/freezer with ice maker and water dispenser that you can only access from the inside of the door, not the outside. Anyhow, it hasn't been used in years. I was about to buy a water cooler but thought perhaps trying the water filter first - we inherited the fridge with the house five years ago, but it wasn't until about 2 years ago I finally noticed the fridge had a water dispenser. So, while considering our tiny kitchen and where to put a water cooler instead of buying heaps of bottled water because our tap water looks and tastes jolly awful, I figured a few dollars re-hooking up the water line and trying out a filter might be worth the investment. The result? This household has never consumed so much 'tap' water before! The water is clear, I can leave a glass out overnight and not notice any funky after taste (which is something I did notice upon first moving to this area about a decade ago). I used to be an anti-bottled water person because I was raised with some of the best tap water (originating from artisan wells) in the world and thought people were throwing their money away buying water in a store. And then I moved here, and the water is 'hard water' and stains everything, tastes funny and comes out of a murky river. But not anymore...if I could fit out the entire house with a filter like the one that goes in the fridge, I probably would! That's how happy I am with this filter.
