KB83 - Excellent Value, maybe change the keycaps and switches

BillySeptember 19, 2023

Despite the lack of reviews at the time, I took a chance on this keyboard as it's features intrigued me. I can certainly say that my curiosity paid off, this keyboard is excellent for the price. It's priced similarly to the Keychron V1, another keyboard that I own, and I can say for certain the KB83 has an overall better build due to the aluminum case plus it's gasket mounted while the V1 is not. At the time of this review I have not yet opened the keyboard but will plan to do a tape mod and other things at a later time. A few somewhat subjective cons: -The keycaps it comes with looks really nice but they feel weird to type on, like it's a bit slippery but no problem as I just swapped them out for my own keycaps (Akko Black&Silver theme ASA profile PBT Double shot keycaps) -The key switches aren't the best. I'm not too fond of the Gateron browns (and in comparisons, I also don't like the keychron k brown pro switches that come in the Keychron V1). Once again, no problem as I had my own set of key switches that I planned to use on this keyboard (Akko Lavender Purple lubed) -Last con, this is a really heavy keyboard compared to the Keychron V1. I had no problem throwing the V1 in my backpack and heading to the office but with the KB83, I'm not even going to bother lol. This keyboard is a stay in the bedroom or office keyboard. Get a V1 or something else if you plan on traveling/moving this keyboard around often I highly recommend this keyboard and will update this review if I come across any problems Read more

One of the best budget boards

Lawrence DJuly 30, 2024

This keyboard hands down one of the best budget boards. I run this, a Rainy 75 and EpoMaker Cidoo V75 on the regular. This board is almost identical to the Cidoo minus the wireless capabilities but comes in a nice black color. The weight is solid and hefty. This board feels more firm than the Cidoo due to not having a flex plate. However it feels really nice with WS Morandi Switches and the LEDs look great through the light diffuser. It matches up nice with my work setup using a Cidoo 21, 10 Key off to the left hand side. Dye Sub Coffee Cat PBT key caps for great sound and feel. I am considering going to a lighter switch. I think the sound and feel will improve. If I was to do it all over again, I may pause and consider the Cidoo C75 but that is only if you are okay losing access to QMK/VIA access to map key. That version has hall effect switches and proprietary software making it less accessible to customize on the go. VIA can be accessed anytime on on PC through your chrome browser making VIA keyboards very user friendly. Read more

This was disappointing

JasonJune 22, 2024

Main problem, it wont turn on. I plugged it in held down the keys to restore factory settings did nothing and i cant find an on/off switch. The paint on this is so thick it has drip marks, pits and air bubbles, an over all gross texture that can be dented with a finger nail. Even if i could turn it on the finish is unexceptable. They are sending a replacement, will update when it arrives . update, They sent a replacement and it looks like the first one was an open box item that was broken. this time it had all the things that were on the packing list and it looked the way it does in the advert pictures. ive only had it a hour so ill update again with a bit of use. Beautiful, premium TKL Keyboard

Larry HJanuary 20, 2024

Lighting and quality are fantastic. Switches are nice and comfortable to type with. Personally I love the keycaps. They’re clean, comfortable, and have a beautiful type face. They aren’t shine-through, so not for everyone. I’ve been very happy with this keyboard and it’s a pretty great all-around package. I do believe the foam is Poron - just wanted to point that out as I did see someone argue that it was misrepresented. All-in-all, I’d definitely recommend this keyboard, but it’s certainly on the higher end of the price spectrum. Read more

Broke.

CustomerJanuary 31, 2024

This would have been my favorite 75% keyboard. I have a glorious GMMK pro, this, and an Akko mod 007. I also have 2 womier SK71’s and a Keychron K4. This shows that this keyboard would have great potential. While I was moding it with the tape mod, the thing that attaches the power wire onto the pcb just snapped. I detached the wire thinking it would detach normal, due to the fact of me moding keyboards that have decent quality. When putting the keyboard back together, I couldn’t find where to plug the power wire back so I could cut out the tape to put it in and rebuild the keyboard. After scratching my head for around 2 minutes, I was horrified by the fact that the thing literally just fell off. When I did a more in depth examination, it looked like the connections were glued on. You would think it would be soldered on. Pretty sad because I loved this keyboard. ~IMPORTANT~ I have no clue what the name of these parts are, effecting how understandable the review would is. To put in simple terms, clearly, quality control is an issue. Read more

False Advertising - No Poron Foam

JonathanSeptember 13, 2023

TL;DR: False advertising: Sound dampening foam is PE Foam, not Poron. Bought this board due to the good price point, aluminum frame, and the "poron" sound dampening foam. INLAND is falsely advertising this product however, as the foam included in the underside of the PCB is not poron, but some kind of 1/8" or 3mm thk polyethylene foam. I've tried purchasing from Amazon, and directly from the store, and both times the product has had PE foam instead of poron. False advertising aside, it's a solid board. The chassis is good quality, and it's a decently quiet board with the stock switches. Not the thockiest, unfortunately. No replacement options for gaskets, pcb, or other internals, and false advertising. Ultimately, would not recommend. Read more

Lovely lights

ConfirmedShopperDecember 18, 2023

The keyboard is quite heavy, but that is not a problem, I don't need it to be mobile. App was easy to download and use. Some of the light patterns are a bit distracting, but I found a couple I like. The keys are acceptably quiet I intend to try some different key caps. Read more
