I sit at my kids sporting events several times a week so I'm always in the sun. I love this umbrella. It is very light weight, assembles and disassembles easily, provides 100% shade from the sun and protection in the rain (light rain -- not a downpour!). You can tilt it, which is nice when the sun is starting to set. You can also easily adjust the height of the umbrella as well. It comes with stakes but I would recommend purchasing some weights. The stakes don't work if you're sitting on pavement at a ball field and they really don't do much unless there is zero wind. The umbrella works well even when it's windy and it's quite sturdy. You will need to put your feet over the base and hold onto the pole on windy days. That may bother some people but it's a small sacrifice for me because it's so easy to assemble and carry that I'm willing to compromise. We live in hot, dry Los Angeles and need shade during our daughter's soccer games. We have gone through three other brands of umbrellas, all of which were either a pain to carry or to put up, or not terribly useful, so we did not use them them more than once. We saw a couple of other parents use the Joe Shade, and ordered it the next day. Portable, sturdy and useful -- especially because of the hinge which makes it easy to point at the sun. Also, you don't have to pound it or screw it into the ground. The stand is great and even comes with spikes for windy days. It is perfect for us at the soccer field! Easy to put up, take down, carry and provides shade no matter where the sun is in the sky. I had a small issue with a part, and contacted the company, sending an email on a Sunday night. As a 12-year veteran soccer mom, I can speak from experience in saying that the Joe Shade is the BEST sideline umbrella! Great on grass and turf, and even up in stadium stands because you can adjust the tripod base so it's narrow enough to fit between the bleachers (although I would usually have to hold onto it to keep it fully upright when in the stands--definitely worth it for the shade!). On the sideline it offered enough shade for both my husband and myself to sit under it with our beach chairs. Super easy to set up, break down and carry from field to field. We purchased one of these a couple years ago and it was great. Lasted a long time, was easy to set up. This one is proving the same for us. I use it primarily in the yard to watch the kids in the pool. It gives great shade and the stand is very sturdy. It will blow over with a strong gust of wind despite being semi-heavy but you can use the pegs to hold it down or put some rocks or heavy object on the legs. I also put a mostiquo net over it in summer to keep the bugs off and makes a cheap screen room for me. My husband has used this umbrella at sporting events and it is perfect for one or two people to sit under with chairs. Overall, it's proved to be the best one out there for us. The old one we have still works even though it has a few rips on the edge (but my kids are brutal with things) and the mechanics on the stand don't work so well anymore--but again, that was the old one we used for a couple years. I got this for use at baseball practices and games, and it’s been great so far. Setup is quick and easy, and I really appreciate how lightweight it is and how little space it takes up in the car. The only downside is that when the umbrella is tilted and there’s a breeze, it tends to swivel out of place, which means you can lose your shade. If that issue could be fixed, it’d be perfect. Still, I’ll keep using it—it’s a much better option than hauling around a big canopy when you’re on your own. Read more

I totally forgot to do a review, because I hadn’t had a chance to actually pull everything out to put it together. This is a very well made two piece set! I live in the Sonoran desert & this thing is a breeze getting it set up. Comes with ground spikes to stable the base on a windy day, and the umbrella works its shady magic.
