Justin boots have been known for years for their high quality. My first pair of boots were Justins, and I actually wore through the leather soles. This pair has the details which have come to be expected of the brand: genuine leather uppers, sturdy stitching, and a classic look. They have rubber soles rather than leather, and the treads are non-slip; this pair is definitely made for fashion rather than for stirrups. The reason I got these was because of the advertised removable orthotic footbed. The feet I had when I wore my first pair of boots were much younger and did not need arch support, and I was thrilled that this pair would be more comfortable for my older/more mature feet. The orthotic was a big disappointment. First of all, it is a minimal support, about 1/8 of an inch in thickness with barely any rigidity in the arch. Secondly, it is almost as if they designed the boot without an orthotic and decided to put it in afterward. While it is snug without the orthotic (as should be expected of leather), with the orthotic in place it is uncomfortably tight. The upper should be fashioned to allow an extra space for the orthotic. So I am left with a couple of choices. I can wear the boot comfortably without the orthotic, but only for an hour or two because my feet will end up hurting from the lack of support. Alternatively, I can wear the boot too tight with the orthotic and hope the upper will loosen enough to make it comfortable. The included orthotic would still be better than no support at all. If it loosens up enough, I can use my own supportive insert, but that would require the upper to stretch even more through a very uncomfortable wearing-in period of time. In a nutshell, these are great fashion boots, but they hardly qualify as supportive. Read more
