Pretty close to the perfect jacket - is it worth it?
I'm assuming you know what this is, aren't just browsing 'cycle jackets and ran a cross a $1700 jacket as an impulse buy. It is overkill for many, especially at this price, but if you want a jacket that will: Pros: * Be the last you'll need to buy * Perfectly waterproof in any weather * Surprisingly well-vented and cool in hot weather * Protect you against practically any fall, on-road or off * Plenty of storage pockets, inside and out * Great fit * Surprisingly light once on and kidney belt taking the weight * Very flexible and comfortable - once broken in. At first it will feel quite stiff due to the thickness of materials used. * Wear it all day, every day, for days to weeks on end and remain comfortable, dry, and protected Cons: * Stiff at first, needs break-in * Overkill for most riders, like I said, but if you're off-road quite a bit or want supreme on-road protection, can't beat it * Neck opening might be wide for some, I use a buff and it's fine * Built-in hydration pack is great and you don't feel the weight of the extra 2.5L once jacket is on - seriously * Working zippers can be a challenge when you're riding until you get used to their locations Can't recommend this enough if you've got the scratch. Plus, with separate jacket and pants, you can pair up with different riding pants to suit riding styles and conditions. Read more
