This knife block set has a trendy look; with its white/wood combo they fit right in with the kitchen colors trending today. They come packaged well; boxed, in plastic sleeves, with cardboard blade covers and plastic tip covers all in a fitted box. I received this set as a gift and was impressed by the number of pieces. The steak knives are serrated, which I prefer, and are sharp. The utility knife and paring knife cut well. It also comes with a bonus set of meat scissors and knife sharpener. All pieces fit well in my hand and blades are an appropriate length making them comfortable and simple to use. Contained in the butcher block helps keep them organized and from getting tossed about in a drawer. They clean easily and the butcher block needs nothing more than a wipe and buff. This is a very nice starter set for someone just starting out. I don't feel it has the strength for a seasoned cook. They appear to be attached to their handles well yet upon use, I noticed that the blades bend ever so slightly. This knife set was a bit of a disappointment because of its somewhat flimsy blades and wood-like rubber/plastic handles. Unfortunately they are also hand wash only, so no quick dishwasher cleaning. Nice variety of sizes and added knife sharpener. Read more

This is a great looking set. Out of the box, it's very functional too. The knives are all very sharp. The set also comes with a small manual knife sharpener. Unfortunately, majority of the knives here are serrated, so the sharpener can't help with those. On the other hand, serrated knives do stay sharper longer. The knives handle, however, is what worries me. They're made out of ABS (like most other classical black-handled knives) and have faux wood finish to them. The finish looks and feels very nice. However, having experienced this specific combination of ABS/faux wood finish on other kitchen utensils, I have a very strong feeling it's not going to last with a regular use. It inevitably starts flaking away bit by bit. I still expect this set to look good for the first maybe 2-3 years. Back to the contents, there's also the shears. They feel well made and strudy - definitely like the shears you can cut a thin chicken bone with, for instance. Finally, there's the block itself. In some ways, I think the block is the best part. It packs quite a bit of knives and has a very high knife density unlike some other wooden blocks. It goes back quite a ways, so if you have shallow counters, you may struggle with it. On the other hand, it's very narrow and saves you quite a bit of space that way. Overall, this is a good value beginner set that should last a few years, but I wouldn't expect half a lifetime from these knives. Read more
