I've used a sharpening steel (honing steel) for many years. The one I have is about 20 yrs old and it was time to get a new one. Out of the box I noticed the length of this steel is a couple of inches shorter that my existing one. However, it is still long enough to run my sharpened knives along the steel to realign the edge just before using the knife. It reduces the need to sharpen my knives significantly which is really nice. A found that about 5-10 swipes in each direction is enough to bring the edge back on my knives making slicing much easier without removing metal. The handle has a nice grip and is easy to hold in your hand making it stable. This helps keep the blade on the steel rather than your hand. The black color matches well with my existing cutlery set. It functions well and for the price it is a good value. If you aren't currently using one of these before you use your knife, I highly recommend giving it a try. It will feel as though you actually sharpened your knife. Eventually you will need to do a proper sharpening as this device only realigns the edge. It doesn't actually sharpen the blade Read more

It is exactly like the sharpener that came with our knife set that we got almost 20 years ago. The original one has been doing a great job keeping our knives sharp. This one is a gift so I expect it to be just as useful for the next 20 years. Nothing is worse than a full knife when you have a tomato to cut. Read more

This sharpening steel works great. I use it all the time to tune up my kitchen knives, and it keeps them cutting like they should between full sharpenings. The 14-inch length gives plenty of room for long blades, and the rod feels sturdy and balanced. The soft-touch handle is comfortable to grip, and the hanging hole makes it easy to keep it right on a hook near my prep area so it’s always handy. The only thing I’d change is the guard—it works, but I wish it were a little larger for extra protection. Other than that, this rod has been excellent. So far it’s done exactly what I wanted, and I don’t have any complaints with its performance. For quick touch-ups and keeping a kitchen set in shape, this steel does the job very well. I’m giving it a full five stars. Read more
Wow... So I've lived most of my life thinking honing rods were silly and didn't work. I had one in some block set forever ago and it never seemed to do anything for the edge on my knife. I've always heard you are supposed to hone your blade to get / keep an edge, but I would just keep a sharpener handy. Most of those just carve away metal. I decided to get this thing a try since I saw it on vine and I'm so happy I did. My Serbian knife was getting kinda dull and about 10 pulls on this baby it's sharper than it has ever been. Theres a nice spot for your shumb to go so you keep a good grip. I can actually get a good feel of when I have a good angle while sharpaning too. Its almost like I can feel a good swipe on it. Obviously I have no clue what I'm talking about or how to properly use a honing rod, but maybe that speaks to the quality of the tool, because I definitely notice a marked improvement in the sharpness of the blade. From struggling on a tomato to being able to carve out super thing slices effortlessly after a quick hone sesh. The guard likes to unscrew a bit with use, but you can easily tighten it back down. I dunno what honing rods generally go for, but I would pay $18 for this puppy anyday. Read more

This 14-inch carbon steel honing rod feels sturdy and well-made right out of the box. The ergonomic, rubberized handle gives a comfortable and secure grip, and the finger guard adds safety. It’s not a pull-through sharpener — instead, it’s designed to maintain and refine the edge of your knives by smoothing out small imperfections from daily use. It works well with a variety of kitchen knives, keeping them sharp and ready without wearing them down. Overall, it’s a high-quality, durable tool that’s easy to use and built to last, making it a great addition to any kitchen. Read more
