I had a number of kitchen knives that were so dull that they were probably unsafe. I tried the sharpener that was on the back of my can opener and found that I was only able to get about half of the knife blade in to sharpen. I decided that it was time to buy something. I wanted a sharpener that would also work with serrated blades because I have a couple of those. I got this sharpener in and the sharpener was able to sharpen the entire length of my kitchen knives. After a single use on one knife, I saw that it was significantly sharper. Sharpening that one knife was very easy, so I made it a policy that I would sharpen my knives after every use until they have all been resharpened. This sharpener is well built and with the adjustable angles, I can use it to sharpen a lot of different knives. I've already sharpened one of my serrated knives and was amazed at how much easier it was to use. A bonus is that I've started sharpening my scissors too and they are much easier to use. My hands are away from the sharp blades so I shouldn't be injured while sharpening a knife unless I'm really clumsy and ignoring basic safety information. This thing is fantastic. It sharpens really well and is very easy to use once you get the hang of it.
