KONG Extreme Flyer - Dog Toy Supports Healthy Exercise - Soft Disc for Dogs - Toy for Fetch

When KONG Extreme Flyer arrived I was not impressed, at first. The disk is thinner and lighter than the regular Kong red disk that my dog loves but goes through pretty quickly. It is a different mold pattern than the red as well and I wondered is this a fake knockoff?... But, my initial skepticism has shifted towards approval after using it consistently. For starts,It is durable- the black rubber stretches more and doesn't tear as easily as the red Kong disk. It flies further than the red disk but you have to have better, more consistent technique to get the most out of it. It doesn't fly as far as the Hyperflite K-10 but its softer on the dog's teeth and I can use it in the house with less concern about breaking things. I expect my dogs will eventually chew a hole in it but I will buy the KONG Extreme Flyer again. Read more

Not durable enough!!! This extreme chew Kong Frisbee is less durable then the Red Kong Frisbee. This is marketed as being more durable but I don't think that is true and I'll not be buying another one of these more expensive Frisbees again. This is his second one that has got a rip in it in less than a week. The Red Kong at least lasted over a month before it got a tear in. I just purchased a second one of these after having one for two years. The prior one was lost in the woods, but held up fine over a couple of years of playing and hiking. My dog loved it so much that he would carry it in his mouth for miles as we hiked. (Until he dropped it somewhere and we couldn't find it.) I don't think this is designed to be a chew toy. It's a flying disk that dogs will love to catch and fetch because of how soft it is. It's not the best flyer for sure; I'm mean it's all floppy and benefits from a good spin. But, if you have a "frisbee dog" like I do, it's great because you don't have to worry about a hard knock against your dog's teeth. We use it all winter long in the freezing weather - try that with a hard plastic disk! So, if you are looking for something for your dog to tear into - or play tug O' war with - look elsewhere. This isn't light weight. It's not chew proof. But unless you're treating it very poorly, it will last for year. Lastly, does this thing smell strongly of rubber? Particularly when it's new? Absolutely. Who cares? That odor will diminish - and my dog uses the smell to find it in tall grass. Sadly, this is not that good. It is too floppy and thin so like the Kong Bone, THE RED IS ACTUALLY TOUGHER FOR STRONG JAW DOGS. I think kong worked out the black rubber was not as good, even the new tug-toy is full red kong rubber instead of silly hard red plastic and black ends. I stopped buying kong flyers about 2 or 3 years ago when I discovered Zisc by westpaw design. The Red Kong Flyers and the puppy models are all better than the Black so-called extreme, but the smaller red ones better than the large. I even found the blue or white puppy flyers even tougher and more durable than the extreme Black.....but none of the float and my dog always rips them with his scissor bite eventually. BUT, if you want the best overall flyer/frisbee!! 2 years ago I discovered the Zisc by West Paw Design (I have only ever bought the glow version) and they fly the best, can go in your pocket, they float and best of all, they are tougher than any other that I've tested so that's all I buy. They give another free if your dog tears them but I've only ever lost them if my boy leaves them on the bus by mistake or if he loses them in surf or the river. I can't find a pic of the Black flyer, but it sucked compared to the small red. It is really thin like some old Red Large models were.......but those really old large red floppy ones actually took more punishment. I can't say this is bad value though as all kong stuff is still far better than most other flyers but it really sucks they don't float. This frisbee received one star due to the packaging. It came folded in half and there was no way to get the crease out. So it flew wonky. Not like the OG which is unfortunate bc this is an AMAZING flyer. I wish they would bring it back and with flat packaging so there the crease does not remain. Other than that is the best flyer out there on the market and sails well and stays aloft even on non windy days. My first flyer held up through two labs for multiple years. But my labs are not chewers and this is NOT a chew toy. Yes they get excited and shake it to death but I teach them this is one item they cannot chew and destroy. Plus I think they enjoy it so much my dogs understood. The old flyer flew so well and wore the fur kids out. The new one is like the Spruce Goose. A major thud that does not fly well or far. Read more
