Math struggles

Renee and Stevenβ€”June 22, 2025

My daughter was struggling with a basic understanding of math, so a friend of mine suggested this DVD and how it had helped her a little. At first, I was skeptical about whether a TV show could actually help my daughter grasp the concepts of basic math, but since she was eager to learn and I was willing to try anything at this point, we decided to give it a shot. We sat down together one evening and popped in the DVD. I was really impressed with how engaging it was. The characters were not only adorable but full of personality, which made it easy for my daughter to get drawn into it. The show didn’t just teach her mathβ€”it made learning so much fun! This DVD quickly became one of her favorite things to do before and after school. It wasn’t just educational; it was entertaining as well! I loved seeing her have that breakthrough moment, excited about learning. She retained so much from the characters and laughed at their antics. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made, and it has been a great tool for engaging my daughter in learning. I highly recommend giving this program a try for parents everywhere. Catchy songs, fun story, very engaging - great purchase!

Elle-Elleβ€”June 30, 2010

This is a good one. At first I wasn't impressed - I only heard them counting to ten in the video. But, a little deeper in, they introduced skip-counting; first by twos (up to twenty), then by fives (up to fifty) and then by tens (up to one hundred). That was pretty cool. The other thing I appreciated was that they showed a few different ways to add two numbers to get to ten. Tad and Lily did this by adding same-colored space rocks (the rocks look suspiciously like brightly colored jello cubes!) to get enough rocket fuel to return to Earth. Pretty good concept. Patterns were also introduced (I think it was "star, space rock, star", "star, space rock, star"). The pattern was used while Tad & Lily and Edison (a lightning bug) are journeying into outer space and flying by these objects. What I liked about this is that, on their return trip they get lost, and find their way back when they see the pattern and follow it back to Earth. Nice that they also snuck this piece in - pay attention when you are traveling somewhere, and it will help you to find your way home. This movie keeps the kids engaged, and they can easily watch it twice in a row, happily. It's definitely been on our frequently viewed list. One thing to note if you are a Leapfrog fan and have other Leapfrog products that your kids love - Tad and Lily look the same age/same height in this video. Some of the earlier Leapfrog videos (Talking Words Factory, Letter Factory, Code Word Caper - all GREAT by the way) have Tad being the young one, with two older, taller siblings (Lily and Leap). The change didn't bother us, but it might be frustrating for some viewer who have had a stronger attachment to Lily in other Leapfrog videos. You might need to say that this is Tad's twin sister, Lily, who was off visiting Grandma & Grandpa during the other videos, and, yes, isn't it funny that both of Tad's sisters have the same name?! All in all, we rate this one an A+! Read more

Great Great Great

Tessβ€”May 23, 2010

This company has not disappointed me yet. There are so many new videos... "your baby can read" etc. that try and teach "party tricks" but this really teaches kids to learn and keeps them interested. Aside from parents who are convinced their 3 year olds should be enrolling in medical school. This is fantastic. We all think our children are very smart and I am no different. You won't be dissapointed. I would get them early. My 5 year old loves them and my 2 year old is captivated. Wish I had found these earlier for my 5 year old. Get them early for your children, like I said my 2 year old really likes them, if she is learning anything is yet to be seen but she enjoys the songs and dances. I have the whole series, from the letter factory to the storybook video...they are cheap $9.99 each. Hope this helps. Don't waste your money on the other junk. They need a "sight word" series though. Educational and fun to watch

Sarahβ€”March 1, 2010

My son is two and is counting from 1-10, so I wanted to get a good educational video for him to watch while I am cooking dinner, etc. This was perfect! He also loves the idea of outer space, and blasting off to the moon, so that was a definate bonus. He has watched this numerous times in the last week since it arrived, and after only seeing it once asked to watch it again the next night. He had a friend over this weekend who loved watching it as well, and he tends to be a little more picky about what he watches, so that says a lot. It has everything, from beginner counting, to adding, to patterns, so it will be around for several more years in our household. Plus Amazon had this item for $5 cheaper than another site, and you can't beat that! If you are looking for something educational that will keep your youngster entertained, then this is perfect. Essential math skills taught in a fun, visual, musical way; Great for children with Autism.

Geraldine A. Wessonβ€”March 19, 2014

This film has really helped my first grader understand counting by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's. The catchy pleasant tune helps him remember as he is working on his papers in school and at home. It shows how to make groups of 10 i.e. 2 + 8 = 10, 4 + 6 = 10 and so on which my first grader was struggling with. It also covers sorting by color, shape and size. My kindergartener is ahead of his class and his 1st grade brother from watching this film. Math is about patterns and catching the number patterns is critical to success in math. Both my boys have a diagnosis of Autism so visuals are an essential part of their education. In addition to this film, we also use printed number charts, "counters" available from scholastic and an abacus. Read more

My students love Leap Frog products. They are fun and very educational. The songs are catchy and they have helped my students with their math and reading. This is a very good video, but not quite up to The Letter Factory. Read more
