Great gift for kids to keep them busy while waiting for Santa. My 10 year old and 14 year old both loved making the daily pieces, some of them were too hard for the 10 year old, but most of them were just cute and fun Read more
I bought this for my 10 y/o son in early to mid November. He is obsessed with Harry Potter right now and is currently reading the 4th book. My son is a great kid, extremely well mannered, more so than the majority of kids his age. But, as with all kids, during some of his “growing up” phases, he begins to dance around limits. This year, he has recently begun speaking in a “bratty” tone sometimes. So that I could nip this in the bud before it became an issue, I bought the Harry Potter advent calendar weeks before he was to start it. I explained that he needed to be more mindful of his tone when speaking to people and this advent calendar was part of my plan to help him. I set the calendar on an eye level shelf in his room and removed everything else from the shelf. I explained that I could return it anytime so if he couldn’t figure out a way to get his tone to sound more respectful than that’s exactly what I was going to do (and we would not be buying another one this year). Once we got to December 1st and he began opening up doors, he would not be allowed to open any door without permission and if he had a bad day, he would not be opening any doors until he redeemed himself. After only a couple days of my plan on action, if I started to hear a “bratty” 10 y/o tone in his voice/words, all I had to do was simply say the words “Harry Potter advent calendar” and it was like a switch. He wouldn’t dare risk me returning that Harry Potter advent calendar that taunted him every single day. Worked like a charm and we haven’t had anymore issues with bratty tones or words since. My grandkids are really into Harry Potter and they LOVE this advent set! Every day they looked forward to opening a new “door” and play with the contents for hours each day. Great gift. Read more
The lego advent calendars tend to be a little bit pricey, but I appreciate that they provide an activity for the kids to do as well as look forward to opening the boxes each day. My kids really looked forward to getting up in the morning and opening the Box for that day and putting together whatever was inside. Read more
This calendar has been a great advent calendar for a lego-loving 10 year old. It comes with several figurines which is a huge bonus. Each figurine comes with 2 wands. I thought it was a mistake with the first one but thry all come with 2. I think it's easier for them to print and send 2 wands than have to separate such a little wand. Other pieces also have extra pieces (like the trees and train) so he could get creative and add them into the design or throw them into his random lego boxes. Read more
I bought this for my 8 year old son who is just now reading the Harry Potter books and loving the LEGO sets that go along with them. It has been much easier to make him excited to get up for the day now that we have this advent calendar! He is excited and enjoys finding out what every new day will bring. The only thing he doesn't like was that he could see two of the days surprises on the back of the box, he was a little disappointed in that. I understand why they show them, to show how it works before you open the box, but he didn't like it as he now knows what's in those days. Read more
For the last 35 years I have helped my nephews and now great-nephews put Lego sets together. The Advent calendar sets are just for me at this point. I've collected all but one of the Harry Potter sets, and the figures and constructs will be added to the larger sets they collect later. The only drawback with these sets is that for the more complicated pieces, the minimal instructions are difficult for me, an experienced adult, to decypher. Read more
