Actually quite impressed, in the end!
I got this free with a Lenovo Smart Display a year ago and gave up trying to set it up on my Google Wi-Fi as it only works on 2.4 gigahertz. I had read about different ways to trick these 2.4 gigahertz smart devices (including robotic vacuums, etc ) by setting up a hotspot on my phone with the same name as my Google WiFi and all that jazz, just seemed too complicated. I finally remembered I had an old Wi-Fi router in the basement that did 2.4 gigahertz, turned that on, set up the smart plug in about 3 minutes. Now I can control my Christmas tree lights even if my phone is on my 5 gigahertz router, when I'm using cell data, or I'm on free Wi-Fi at McDonalds like right now, freaking out my kids as the Christmas tree flashes on and off. So far, loving it. :-) Four stars instead of five only because the directions could have been clearer and how to work around the 5 ghtz, and it's pretty expensive compared to others. Oh, I also set it up with Google Assistant super easily, invited my wife to control our "smart home" on the Google Home app (she didn't even need the Lenovo Link app), so we can both control the tree. And of course, so can the kids with their voice at home! Read more
