I am absolutely thrilled with my Lodge L8DOLKPLT Cast Iron Dutch Oven! From its sturdy construction to its convenient dual handles, this 5-quart beauty has exceeded all my expectations. The pre-seasoned coating ensured that I could start cooking delicious meals right away without worrying about sticking or uneven heating. Plus, the size is perfect for a variety of dishes, from soups and stews to roasts and casseroles. The dual handles make it easy to transport, even when filled to the brim with piping hot food. Whether I'm cooking on the stovetop or in the oven, this Dutch oven distributes heat evenly and retains it superbly, resulting in perfectly cooked meals every time. Cleanup is a breeze thanks to the durable cast iron material, and I appreciate the versatility of being able to use it on any cooking surface, including induction cooktops. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. If you're in the market for a reliable and high-quality Dutch oven, look no further than the Lodge L8DOLKPLT. Highly recommended! Read more
Nice cast iron dutch oven. Already seasoned and ready to go. I have a 3 quart just like it and love the way it cooks so I opted for a larger one for roasts and other meats. Read more

This is a true value. It does everything that the $300 LeCreuset does but costs about 15% of the fancy unit. Those if you that have used cast iron skillet for years will have no problems seasoning it, using it and caring for it. I don't know why it has taken me so long to get one. I have used it for baking sourdough bread and it's fantastic. I have used it for hot oil and frying tempura shrimp and vegetables. Fantastic. It holds the heat so we'll ... The oil temperature doesn't plunge when you add food like a common pot does. Ok, so the "pre-seasoning" that Lodge provides... It's not great. It essentially is a coating that prevents it from rusting in the warehouse. And the inside surface is rather rough. That means it will be harder to season and to clean and food will stick to it more. So.... You are going to need to season this yourself. It's not difficult and once you have done it, that's it. No more fuss. In addition, I would strongly recommend sanding the inside to a smoother finish. Get some 60 or 80 grit sandpaper. Not the cheap dollar store stuff. Good durable 3M or whatever. A quarter-sheet palm sander is appropriate. Focus on the bottom and the inside edge where the bottom transitions to the side. The center of the bottom will quickly get smooth... You dint want to overdo it. You don't want it SUPER smooth. You just want to take off most of the grainy "bumpy-ness". As the center of the bottom starts to get smooth, focus on the outer sections and the inside edge. You can put some effort into the sides as well but it's not as critical. You will probably need to change the sandpaper knce during the process. Now rinse it off well. Go to YouTube. Look up "season cast iron cowboy". There's a dude there with a cowboy hat that dies a good job of explaining the process. Essentially you heat the pot on the stove, coat the inside with oil, bake in a 350 degree iven for 45 minutes. Leave the pot in the oven a d met them both cool down to room temp. Do this three to four times. Each time it will get a little less silver color and more bronze color. When I made the sourdough bread, oven was at 550! For about an hour total including preheating. After that the inside was SOLID black.. no gummy surface, just perfectly black shiny seasoning. Despite what Lodge claims about their process... THIS is real seasoning that will set you up for a lifetime of cooking. Read more
To start, I did not receive the item I ordered. I had narrowed my choice to 2 items, this being one of the two. At first I thought I had ordered the wrong item, but when I checked the wrong item was shipped. As the price was essentially the same on both and the choice between the two was arbitrary, I opted to keep this one instead of loading it up, returning it and wait on the replacement. I received the one where the lid has two handles on the sides instead of one on the top, allowing the lid on the one I received to be used as a fry pan. I learned the lid design also allows you to flip it and use it like a Le Creuset bread oven. This is a heavy piece of cook ware at over 14 pounds, but that weight makes for great cooking. I have baked 3 loaves of bread so far with no hot spots and no sticking. I expect this to be passed down through the generations. Read more
