I use this device to control my outdoor landscape lighting. I have a lot of Lutron Caseta in the house and this fit into my smart home system very nicely. It was added quickly to my Lutron app. I use the Lutron app to control all my outdoor lighting on a schedule related to sunrise and sunset. I don't integrate it to Alexa because there is no need to control the lights from the Alexa app, but it would be easy to add just like my other Caseta devices. There are two impressive things about this device. First it is well built and would seem to last a long time in an outdoor environment. Second is the range. It is not a WiFi device, it uses a 900Mhz frequency that has better penetration abilities than a 2.4Ghz signal. At first I thought I would have to install this device on the outside of the house between the outlet and the 12V transformer. But I realized that it would fit INSIDE the door on the transformer (I use a 150W transformer by Volt and it is 100% stainless steel enclosure). This made the installation much simpler and secured the device inside the transformer which you can lock. My Lutron hub is in a closet. There are 4 internal walls, a brick exterior wall and a full stainless enclosure around the switch and it works great. That is about 40 feet between the hub and the switch. I also tried it to an outlet in the backyard, even further from the hub and maybe one more wall and it still worked. Yes this switch is relatively expensive. But all the Lutron Caseta hardware I have bought is top quality. It is reliable, and I'm not sending a command through some server halfway around the world to turn my lights on/off. This syncs my landscape lighting with my porch light and garage sconces. They turn on and off at the same time and I didn't need to add another system into my smart house. I removed all my WiFi connected devices out of my house, so I was happy to see Lutron release this. I bought a 2nd unit for the backyard. Read more

I started to order a Caséta lamp receptacle to use to turn my incandescent 300 lamp Christmas tree on and off per a schedule, but then saw the low amperage (less than an amp) rating and decided I needed something to support more current draw. I chose this item because it has support for up to a 15 amp load is Caséta compatible. It works as designed, though I will say follow the directions (which are only online and accessible via the QR code) explicitly. Adding this device to your system is easy by opening the app, pressing the LED until it fast blinks, and then following the directions presented in the app. I will caution that before the device was "saved" to my Caséta hub, I interrupted the sequence to change the name of my device. That was a mistake! I should have gone through the complete adding sequence and then gone back and altered the device name. That will make sense to you if you have programmed a number of Caséta devices, OR when you go through adding this one to your system. So my device was not completely saved due to my editing the name out of sequence before the final step and consequently I could not "schedule" the device in the app. The answer was to hold down the power LED on the device then click it three times and then repeat that sequence which put the device back into factory default mode where I could start the programming again and properly go through the three simple instructions presented by the app without interrupting the process with a name edit. So - easy peasy. Plug in the device; hold down the LED until you get the fast blinking; go to your app and choose the type of device you are adding and follow the instructions which are given to you in the Lutron App! I love my Caséta devices and the Lutron app! Read more

I bought a couple of these and have put one in place so far. It is pretty simple....plug it in, the app finds it, and from there is it easy. It is reliable, very sturdy / rugged, and weatherproof. The app is easy to use and fast when I want to turn it on / off. Setting up schedules is easy. Overall i highly recommend this. Read more

While this unit is targeted for outdoor use, it is also very useful for enhancing the usefulness of indoor loads. This device can handle both resistive and inductive loads (e.g., lights as well as motors) up to 15A (or 1/2 HP motor). I have a shopvac that I use for dust collection in my shop. It was awkward to always have to move away from my workbench in order to turn it on and off when about to make a cut. This made it too tempting to skip the vac when I had only a short cut to make. Paring this switch with two Pico remote switches allowed me to place the remotes on two of my most-used torsion tables. As a result I now always turn the vac on even when making a single, short cut. This has worked so well that I will be acquiring a couple more units to use with two larger dust collection units. While this is not a review of the Pico remote, they pair up with this switch very easily. Contrary to the "About this item" writeup for this switch, I don't believe it is necessary to use a Caseta Smart hub for this pairing. I have a very busy hub for other reasons, but this is a very simple Caseta Wireless relationship and I manually paired the controllers with the switch. My hub has no knowledge of these pairings, nor is there any real reason to use a hub for this purpose. The attached pics are 1) the switch mounted to my torsion box, 2) Pico control on the torsion box (one of which is for the switch), 3) the switch in shop context. --- update --- I have now added two more units to control the larger dust collectors in my other shop area. I was able to add two sets of Pico Controllers in strategic locations to make it much more convenient to control these collection devices. Note that the Pico switches can be mounted anywhere you have a flat surface. This is just too cool! Read more
