This is a fairly balanced massage phone stand. Even without using the suction base, it is able to hold a phone upright if you keep the center of gravity over the base. The holder has a pseudo carbon fiber looking face to help with marring the surface of bare phones, but I always use a case, so that isn't a problem. The very base has a locking rig that engages the suction cup. Very simple operation, with just needing to twist to lock or unlock. The metal step has a seam on the midpoint, allowing the top to twist a full 360 degrees around.The only negative is that from base to top, this stands 5 inches. It does tilt fully back and around so you can get nearly any viewing angle desired. I am extremely happy with this car phone holder. It has an extra sticky adhesive on the bottom that holds onto my dash so strongly that it hasn’t moved since I placed it there. The magnet is super strong as well. I have tried a few phone holders for my MagSafe case that are always not a great hold but this one is actually incredible! I have not tried this on a window yet, but the suction is super strong on my desk. I have not found an angle this cannot bend to. You can spin it all the way around at both the base and magnetic part at the top. The magnet could be stronger, but it holds my phone firm unless i move it around with too much force. I am giving this VIPWISE mount 4 stars because the technology and hold are incredible, but there are two very important things you need to know before buying, especially if you have a larger device like the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Fit Issue: My main issue is that the mount’s arm is simply not long enough to accommodate an iPhone 17 Pro Max in the vertical (portrait) orientation. If you want your phone standing straight up and down, it likely won't clear your dashboard. It works perfectly fine in the horizontal position, but it won’t allow the phone to sit completely vertical unless you position the mount so the phone overhangs the edge of the dash. A Warning on Placement: The advertisements for this product show the phone being mounted directly to a car’s LCD infotainment screen. DO NOT DO THIS! These vacuum suction cups are incredibly powerful (rated at 89+ lbs), and using that kind of pressure on a screen is a surefire way to crack your car's expensive LCD. Stick to the windshield or a smooth part of the dash instead. Verdict: The 3200gf magnetic force is no joke—your phone isn't going anywhere. My iPhone mounted very securely in my car using this. The magnet is quite strong and the phone stayed attached while driving over big bumps. The materials feel tightly constructed and of good quality. I can’t speak about how well the suction mount would work directly on a glass windshield, because I opted for the adhesive mount on the dashboard and then the suction mount onto that. It includes a metal ring with adhesive for non-MagSafe phones or cases, but I didn’t need to use that because my case is already magnetic. The joints in the magnet arm have a good range of motion and are stiff enough to stay in position without flopping over time. Would recommend this for anyone looking for a MagSafe mounting option. This phone mount is a solid alternative. We recently purchased a new-to-us 2021 Ford Expedition, and this mount has proven itself well.
