MALOUF Z Side Sleeper Shoulder Cutout Dough Memory Foam Pillow with Liquid Gel Layer-Queen Blue

++It’s been a week of sleeping on it and it is even better than I thought it was. I look forward to lying down instead of dreading it. The cooling gel definitely helps a very hot sleeper like myself. And now that I have this, I realize a major, MAJOR problem with my sleep in the past (not necessarily caused by pillows but never helped by a good pillow either) was that I could never totally relax all of my muscles of the neck, shoulders, skull, and face/jaw, and this pillow really makes it almost effortless to forget about the tension in those areas and just relax finally. Plus the pain from months and years of side sleeping with my shoulder/arm squashed under a pillow where the pressure was NOT evenly distributed is going away after a week of using this pillow. The pressure IS evenly distributed so instead of 10 pounds of constant pressure right on my inner shoulder/very upper arm area, it’s 10 pounds of pressure spread throughout the entire queen sized pillow. That explanation doesn’t do it justice but THIS PILLOW IS A REAL DREAM, and I am a sleep hygiene fanatic.** I’m gonna write a much, much more lengthy review later with photos when I have time, but I got this pillow delivered yesterday and I just wanted to say it is the best pillow (by FAR) that I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. I used to sell TempurPedics when I was a massage therapist and am replacing a bunch of TempurPedic pillows with this one. Just WOOOOOOW! I wasn’t expecting much, but I didn’t toss and turn once. I’ve had pillows with the shoulder cut out before, and they were nothing like this. Not even as close to comfortable as this one is. I also am an extremely hot sleeper, I always go to bed hot, I always wake up dripping in a pool of my own sweat, even with the AC down low, fans on, cool aromatherapy and a cool mist humidifier, no light coming in, and every tool imaginable to sleep cool, and it’s not enough. The cooling gel of this pillow is beyond phenomenal. Someone actually reminded me about this brand of pillows on Facebook, in a chronic pain group, and a bunch of those people in the group use it, and I didn’t realize it was the same brand as a travel pillow that I already own, so I’m so glad that they reminded me. It is so soft in the head, and even after only one day, I can tell that it’s the only pillow in my 40 years of life that I can ever really relax my head on and not think about trying to fully relax my neck, it just does it it’s self and you are off to a dream state. I have a lot of problems, migraine and neck pain being the most painful issue, followed by shoulder and back pain, joint pain, fibromyalgia, TMJ, a connective tissue disorder, and so much more that is annoying and painful. This pillow is longer than I wanted it to be with the queen size, are usually get a standard size pillows, but I think for some reason having the queen size one allows you to truly relax because there is no drop off, so your head feels like it’s in the middle no matter where it is. With the cut out shoulder section, it allowed me to side sleep the most comfortable night in my life. I’ve had these cutouts before and they were nothing like this. Are usually wake up with shoulder and neck pain, feeling like my muscles are on fire, but the way that I slept last night with my shoulder underneath and my arm under the pillow was an absolute perfect position for my spine and neck and I just can’t even explain how thankful I am that I found this pillow. This entire brands lines of products is phenomenal and beyond comparison. It is worth every penny. Probably worth it’s weight in gold. I had the blue gel/jelly pillow in the U-shaped style for airplanes, but I wound up using it every day for four years because it was just so comfortable. I don’t know why I never thought of getting a full size pillow with the same brand, but I’m so glad that someone reminded me that they sell more than travel pillows and I got the full-size pillow. My name is Suzanne and I have a pillow addiction. Not really, I was in a car accident 20+ years ago and I also have degenerative disc disease; not sure if it is hereditary or a result of the accident. This pillow is the ONLY pillow that supports my head and neck and gives me some relief; I actually wake up feeling (relatively) rested. Yep, this pillow is pricy but worth every single penny. I've tried countless pillows claiming relief, don't believe the hype. This one is quiet - but mighty. Pros: - Support of head and neck, which in turn takes pressure off your shoulders. - Memory foam which is much more supportive than shredded memory foam. - Medium firm - takes a night or two to get used to it. - 5-inch loft, so if you're a side sleeper, it supports your head so you don't wake up with that 'crick in your neck' (which can ruin your day) - Cool side - very helpful to relieve pain, and it does distribute heat to keep you comfortable. For me, it helps relieve the day's tension in my neck and head allowing me to relax (a surprise blessing). - Regular side - if it's too cool, flip it over. Two pillows in one. - Cut out for shoulder - a gift to side sleepers! Genius!! - Incredibly durable. This is only my second Malouf Z pillow in 10+ years. Cons: - The price - but when you think about it if it lasts for 10 years, you're only spending $14 a year, which is less expensive than a massage, your co-pay for the doctor's visits you may encounter for the pain, or any other pillow you may purchase over the course of 365 days. - Medium firm - it does take a couple of sleeps to get used to. Great pillow. I bought one of these from a mattress store years ago- but after about 5 years it finally wore down to not being so good. But this people is actually the most comfortable pillow I've ever owned which is why I was happy I found it on Amazon since the mattress store I bought it from went out of business. Even if I get 2-3 years out of it this time it's well worth the money for a good night's sleep. Read more

I've tried a dozen pillows and this is in my top-2. Its greatest strength is its main weakness: it's perfect for side-sleeping but uncomfortable in any other position. As someone who rolls on their back for some portion of sleep, the Malouf Z can be a little problematic. But in a side-sleeping position, this is the most comfortable pillow I've tried. The stiffness of the pillow is just right. Unlike some other pillows I've tried, it doesn't sink over time and it holds the head at a comfortable height without putting too much pressure on the ear or jaw. (This also makes it good for CPAP users.) The shoulder cutout is also much appreciated. Speaking of which, the pillow is needlessly large (even at the relatively smaller Queen size) ‒ a veritable 2.5 ft, 4.6 lbs monster. The shoulder cutout gives the head an implied place to rest, so the additional width of the pillow is pointless in my opinion. That said, if you're an exclusive side-sleeper, I wouldn't hesitate on this pillow. If you like to roll on your back, I would try the Therapeutica pillow ("Average" size is closest to the Malouf Z), which isn't as comfortable for side-sleeping as the Malouf Z but supports back-sleeping.
