MaxiKeys - Android keyboard with big keys and a full keyboard

I purchased this app thinking I could improve my phone tapping and make some cool custom key layouts that improved on the google standard. Great idea, but in practice it just doesn't improve on the basic Google KB. In fact, its inferior in just about every way. The input selection button is messed up and lacks a label, making it difficult to enable. The portrait KB is just a weirdly stretched version of the landscape one and can't be changed, plus the portrait layout requires an annoying tilt-scroll in order to use the whole kb, which is way to wide for the screen but not tall enough either... I attempted to remedy this by cloning Google KB's portrait mode, but this would sacrifice the landscape KB, if only I could get the KB maker to work. It generates a mysterious bar-code image I have no idea how to install. OK, so I'll just use my phone in landscape mode, nope. The keyboard is a weird international format has ugly static at the bottom of the screen, flickers with every key press and lacks hold-button-shift keys. The author's extra kb layouts should be free, considering how hideous the package functions, and that the layout maker is dead. I really wanted to like this one. I have large hands and a small, company issued HTC Evo 4G Shift, which, though containing a built-in keyboard I find it awkward to type with it. The inclusion of Swiftkey is a help, but I still find myself constantly correcting my "fat-finger" errors. This keyboard presents a new idea that sounds like a winner for guys like me, but the control of the sliding action of the full qwerty keyboard is very difficult, at best. If 60% of the keys were visible at a time, the user could just slide from one side to the other to use it, but it's actually closer to 30%, which DOES make the keys and spacing great, but makes getting the right group of keys to stay visible very hard. I don't see how this app in its current form can make typing any less frustrating on a phone-sized screen. My suggestion would be to do away with the gyroscope action and put in a manually-actuated on-screen thumb slider button or pass the sliding keyboard action to the sound rocker switches. This would allow the position of the keyboard to be controlled with one hand while typing with the other, while still allowing one-handed typing when needed. Read more
