I appreciated the clear assembly instructions and the fact that one can assembly the unit quickly (in about 15 minutes) without tools or stress. The commode works well, feels pretty sturdy, and the little toilet paper holder is a nice touch. When not using it for over-the-toilet, remember to remove the splash guard piece for easier cleaning. This type of unit is always a little prone to being able to tip over, so it's best if it's up against a wall, but even in the middle of a room (where we need to place it), it felt sturdy. Read more
My mother had a fall and needed a bedside commode really quickly so I had purchased a CVS Health folding commode which worked but the seat was too large. She is 90, under 5ft and weighs less than 100 lbs. She complained that she slipped through the seat opening and touched the water in the bucket. I looked for another portable online and found this Medline bedside commode. When we put it together, the seat was so small, I thought it was a child's commode. However, the small size made it perfect for my mom and she uses it daily. It has really helped to have it in her bedroom as the bathroom is down the hall so is not easy for her to negotiate at night. I would highly recommend this item for a small adult. Read more
I have ordered these at least 3 times in the last decade. Maybe More. As a full time caregiver these have helped enormously in avoiding falls and mishaps on the way to the bathroom. It just makes life easier for older folks. However I noticed that this recent purchase, while the frame is strong as ever, the seat and bucket seem to be of flimsy plastic compared to previous. The patient is only 175 lbs and I have had much heavier persons use these with no problem. I sat on it myself as well. (165 lbs) The seat pops/ buckles a bit and is much weaker than previous ones. It doesn't seem to be unsafe, just annoying and rattling with excessive give. Hard on an older person who is vulnerable to falls and the flimsy feel of the seat coupled with popping sounds can be unnerving. I have placed a bath towel on the frame and pushed the bucket down snugly. I have also removed the bail as it's not necessary at this time and contributed to the rattling. Thought maybe this be helpful to others. It is still a good bedside commode and super easy to assemble/ take down. Read more
My mother was ill and could not make it to the bathroom at night anymore, even with help. So this became a necessity. I liked the fact it had Microban protection, a toilet paper holder on the right leg, and was height adjustable. It was also sturdy enough that it didn't wobble or tilt. It lasted her for over a year until she passed away. Then it was passed along to a family member who had a hip replacement. Worked well for her. I don't know who has it now. Read more
This commode chair does its job, is easy to put together without tools, and the frame is sturdy. However, the design of the very small seat is ridiculous. From my picture, you can see that the seat is only supported at the back hinges, and by a sliver of plastic at the front edge. So when you sit on it, the whole things bends and sags down a full inch at least, until the middle of the seat is flexed down onto the frame that holds the bucket. So the flimsy seat is basically like a bridge, with no support in the middle, which would be easy to re-design. It feels like it is going to snap and collapse under you, as you sit on it and it sags under your weight. The seat either needs to be much thicker, stronger, and not flexible, or just include two molded-in plastic supports on the underside, that could make contact right onto the area of the metal frame that holds the bucket. Also the seat and bucket are too small for an adult. You have to scootch forward to poop, or scootch back to pee. If you need to do both at once, you will likely be needing a major floor clean-up. I got to the point where I could not make it to the bathroom in time, so I tried this cheap bedside commode, and it was a game changer! I tried different personnel products, but nothing worked as well for me as having this by my bed! Read more
The only thing i would like to see is a heaver gauge of plastic for the seat and lid. it would be nice with a better mounting system for the seat and lid also because it is very tight to operate. Nice unit though. Read more
