These shorts with the split sides, and the very similar ones with the side vents, are great favorites of mine. They are very lightweight and comfortable and frankly are the nearest thing to running with nothing on while yet preserving modesty. They are very non-restricting and have a pleasing silkiness to them. I have actually worn them on occasion as underwear as well, with great comfort. They are very inexpensive and offered in a range of colors (the side-vent ones in a much wider range of colors) so I have half a dozen pairs. Since they dry very rapidly I had considered them for swimming in as well. It turns out they are not ideal for swimming. I would have to caution that the lighter colors become very translucent, nearly transparent when soaking wet and thus cannot be recommended for swimming at least in public. Fortunately I tested this in private, saving myself embarrassment in public. You could probably get away with swimming in the darker colors such as black, Navy blue and probably royal blue but when emerging from the water they are plastered to your skin and look like they are painted on you until you pull them away from your skin. A good toweling fixes this problem quickly but you should try this out at home before wearing them swimming in public to see what you're comfortable with. So my take on these is, terrific running shorts, suitable swim suit for those backcountry canoeing trips where people are not too nearby. For the short price tag it's hard to go wrong with these. Ordered these looking for a high side slit comfortable light weight short for working out, running, possibly swimming. Something to pack small. These are none of that. Slit is maybe half up side. Fold up huge. Material is abrasive trunk and liner. Curious why everyone cut the liner out. It's huge ! Material is see thru like a burlap bag is. Fit is similar to kick boxing trunks. Thick waistband puffy shiny trunk. Something maybe a genie would wear. Very disappointed in these. Have not tried running in them . Would be embarrassed. Looks like a tutu. Plus there going to catch some wind. Not exactly sure what I am going to do with them other than wonder why others reviews were good. Read more
I bought these for my son, who is on the high school cross country team. Name brand shorts, at the running stores are about 4 times this price, so I was looking for something more affordable for him to run in for practice. They fit great, run true to size, they're super lightweight, and made well to withstand all the miles he runs. The only reason I gave them a 4 star, instead of 5, is because I didn't expect them to be so sheer for my self conscious teen. However, he's been wearing them for a week and reports they are comfortable and they aren't see through. Please note that they do include a built in brief to add an extra layer. I would recommend choosing the dark colors because of the sheer material. Read more
The colored shorts are not made of tricot or any other kind of nylon. They are stiff polyester. And that is all of the colors no matter what they say. They also advertise a New Zealand split, and show that on the picture, but reality is different. Split is barely 1/2 way up; not almost to the waistband. I just bought 3 new ones. They were very rough, so I washed them (as recommended) and washed them. The black one was relatively soft after 3 washes (but not what the tricot ones were). The other 2 I washed 3 more times. The blue one was still somewhat rough but usable except for running. The red one was still so rough I really don’t know what I am going to use it for. This company is a poster child for screwing up a 5 star product. They used to make it out of Tricot Nylon and had raving reviews including from me. I had 12 pairs of that material that I bought in 2016 and wore to shreds. Since then they switch to polyester and significantly increased the price from $11 to $17. I liked that they were/are made in the USA but if somebody in China starts making them out of nylon, I am in the market for 12 replacement ones. Some historic comments: I did again remove the inner liner. The elastic in the leg holes is as uncomfortable as ever. I also again removed the stitching on the side so that I again have a full split. Great shorts. They're just like the TR60 style, except these have a split side. They wear and look like the TR60 when standing, but the split becomes more evident when in motion or when stretching. I've attached photos for comparison. I'm an avid distance runner, and highly recommend either style if you're looking for something comfortable to run in. Just like the TR60, the material is very thin and light weight. This is exactly what I was looking for. They're comfortable and breathable which is ideal for long runs. Also just like the TR60, the inner liner is for concealment not support. You will need to wear something under them if you want things to stay in place while you run. If you cut the inner liner out, like it seems many people do, I'd caution against wearing them in extremely well lit areas because the thin material can be a bit translucent with a contrasting color underneath (as noted in my TR60 review). The split in the side of the TR623 goes most of the way up the leg. It allows for a very free stride. The down side to that split side is that you need to be extra mindful when stretching before/after a run. They can be quite revealing depending on position and angle if you're not careful. As I said at the top, I recommend either style for running. I've got multiple pair of both, though if I had to pick one style over the other, I'd go with the TR623. The only real con to the TR623 is that there are currently only 4 colors available. If you want more color options, check out the TR60. Read more
