These shorts with the side vents, and the very similar ones with the split sides, are great favorites of mine. They are very lightweight and comfortable and frankly are the nearest thing to running with nothing on while yet preserving modesty. They are very non-restricting and have a pleasing silkiness to them. I have actually worn them on occasion as underwear as well, with great comfort. They are very inexpensive and offered in a range of colors (the side-vent ones in a much wider range of colors) so I have half a dozen pairs. Since they dry very rapidly I had considered them for swimming in as well. It turns out they are not ideal for swimming. I would have to caution that the lighter colors become very translucent, nearly transparent when soaking wet and thus cannot be recommended for swimming at least in public. Fortunately I tested this in private, saving myself embarrassment in public. You could probably get away with swimming in the darker colors such as black, Navy blue and probably royal blue but when emerging from the water they are plastered to your skin and look like they are painted on you until you pull them away from your skin. A good toweling fixes this problem quickly but you should try this out at home before wearing them swimming in public to see what you're comfortable with. So my take on these is, terrific running shorts, suitable swim suit for those backcountry canoeing trips where people are not too nearby. For the short price tag it's hard to go wrong with these. To start I'll let you I'm 6' 1' - 190lbs and in pretty good shape. I have several pairs of these Game Gear running shorts. The first pair I bought were black and size large. I found the large too tight and short so the rest I have ordered in XL and they fit comfortably. The XL I have are green and black and I've had no issues with them. However, these grey ones in XL are huge! They literally fall off me and I can't wear them. I'm not sure if I just got a random weird pair or if they changed their sizes. These shorts are the most comfortable running shorts I've ever owned and they seem to hold up well. I gave this pair 1-star because of the irregularity in the size compared the others I own of the same brand. Below is a photo of two XL shorts. Both were supposedly the same just different colors. As you can see the grey ones are much larger. Read more
First: I am a huge fan of GG's shorter running short. I have 3 pairs of those & they are spectacular for running in the heat & humidity of a mid-Atlantic summer. I also like that they are super short. Otherwise, what's the point of legwork if nobody sees them? Which brings me to these shorts-they are longer & thus not cheek-revealing when squatting or pressing on that necessary & oh so tough leg day. Their thinness, I have found, is no more revealing that any athletic short is for the lines of one's underwear (or not). All that said, the fit has been mentioned as somewhat odd in that they can be tight across the butt & loose in the waist. I am a 30-31w with fairly well developed glutes, hams & quads. I got the small based on my preferred size in the short version. The waist is looser & the butt narrower-go figure. They still fit well, just not as I was totally expecting hence 4 stars. The liner could also be a bit more supportive i.e. tighter. If you are too modest for "real" GG or Soffe, or want to be somewhat circumspect in the gym, these are great shorts esp for the price. If you've got something to show off though, remember that most of us would probably like to see it. Read more
Let's be honest. I never thought I'd see the day I was wearing shorts that were...well, this short. Or borderline risque. But here I am, loving them, wearing them on daily runs in public, unafraid or ashamed. What happened? I used to be that guy that would only wear running shorts that came up (at the highest) to the top of my knee; I laughed at the gentleman at work who wore the super short running shorts every morning, which I thought looked funny on his 6 foot frame. But here I am, mid-30's and wiser. These shorts have opened up a whole new appreciation for minimalist running gear. They are so light, they almost feel like you aren't wearing anything - and that's a bonus on longer runs. For those who only run 1-2 miles, they won't notice the difference. But when you start edging up over 3 miles, less becomes more. These shorts don't rub; they flow easily; they are lighter than a pair of feathers. But buyer beware: Don't go for the bright, cool colors unless you know the risk...if you go commando, these shorts will do the trick. But they will be ah, a little "revealing" for the first few minutes, up until you get your blood pumping, and your body adjust to the run, shrinking body parts like they are supposed to be shrunk, when the blood is coursing elsewhere in your body. And yes, they are rather "silky" feeling, which can be both good (and bad) if you are roaming around the house. At which point I advise wearing underwear with them, if you aren't by yourself. And yes; you'll need to wear briefs if you decide to wear underwear. I pulled out my nicely branded boxer briefs from a famous workout company, and they showed through the bottom of the shorts, looking quite awkward. So the solution is briefs, or no undies. And enjoy your run in style - your body will thank you. And never mind the wife who rolls on the floor in laughter when you first set out - it's about training your body, not being stylish! These shorts are to running apparel what high tech, lightweight fabric is to camping tents; light, minimalist, and remarkable. Read more
The package came with the product all bunched up and now has creases everywhere. It looks like it was sitting on someone's dirty bedroom floor for weeks. They came unwrapped and without tags... The shorts themselves are actually made nicely and will be extremely comfortable for working out or lounging. Too bad that the company doesn't take enough pride in their products to nicely food and wrap them. Read more
