Very sharp - in a good way. Had not tried this shape and it worked great. I had a pile of beautifully grated Parm in no time and less messy than the ruler shaped planer for my hands. My "aim" was better whether over a small dish or directly over our food. The slightly angled sides are also more ergonomically shaped than a flat ruler shaped planer as well. We also have a couple of different Microplane straight graters that work well for my husbands hands. But we both love this for cheese. Read more

I'm not much of a cook and knew nothing about different types of graters when I ordered this. I wanted to zest a lemon; I find it's a little too coarse to zest a lemon, but I'm making do for now with a lighter touch to the lemon rind. This is better suited for grating hard cheeses and veggies. When I received this, it was larger than it appears to be pictured here - it measures over 10" long by 2.75" wide. Stainless steel so it won't rust like my 50 year old box grater did (my box grater was handed down to me from my mom). Easy to use without nicking my fingers. Easy to wash. Has rubber on the bottom so you can place it on your counter while grating, without it sliding all over. Comes with a cover so it's safe to store in the drawer with the other cooking utensils. Rates 5 stars with me and I will be back to buy other Microplanes. Read more

I am a huge fan of Microplane Artisan Graters. I have owned several, in various grades of very fine to coarse, and I even make sure to take one with me when traveling to vacations at "self catering" accommodations where some cooking is planned. The current model improves on the original Microplane graters of several years ago by upgrading the materials used in the handle to make it more robust and less prone to bending and, in some cases, breaking. I have had no problems with the current model. In fact, on a recent long stay abroad, a couple that were staying in an adjacent apartment were so unhappy with the cheap grater supplied in the apartment, and so impressed with the Microplane that I lent them, that I gave them the grater as a parting gift. Affordable, well built and most of all a super grater. And Made In the USA. RECOMMENDED. Read more

Grates parmesan/hard cheese with ease. Ginger & tumeric too! The rubber skid proof bottom helps alot. Cleans up with easily. It's also effective on skin...but that's on me! Be careful! Read more

I bought this because it was reasonably priced. It does the job of grating well enough but the metal is thin and flimsy. The plastic around it holds it in place most of the time but food gets stuck where the metal meets the plastic a lot. If you wash it right away it's not so much a problem but if you leave it overnight it hardens and is a nightmare to get out. The microplane graters without plastic edges are way better. Read more
