I used to work as an RTA furniture designer, and I can confidently say that this bookshelf is very well constructed. Underneath the surface is an MDF, particle board composite. It's certainly not as nice as solid wood, but the quality is great for furniture in this price range. The laminate and edging is nicely textured, and it looks great once it's assembled. The setup was easy and straightforward. It helps to have a drill just to speed up the process of driving in some of the longer screws, but it's definitely not necessary. You could assemble the whole unit with a screwdriver if you wanted to. I think my only complaint are the stickers supplied for the cam lock holes. The idea is to cover the few visible holes remaining once assembly is complete, but the stickers don't have a great adhesive and I can't imagine that they will hold up for very long. It would have been nice to have some caps to cover the holes. Overall, I don't think you could go wrong with this bookshelf. It has a fantastic, unique look and the price is great. Read more

Have had this bookshelf since October 2016 (getting close to three years now) and it's an amazing piece. It is still my personal favorite. It's been through three movings and still looks brand new. Has not become shaky or broken, or chipped. It is sturdy and heavy! Takes two people to lift around to move. I was concerned the small legs would not hold the heavy top but it's never faltered. A bit tedious to assemble but worth the effort. Beautiful finish! Highly recommend for that book lover that needs a speaking piece to hold your treasures. Read more

It looks as it appears on the image. Very good looking. The product came with what looked like good protection on the outside of the package, however upon opening, there were a few corners that had minor damage. The assembly was straight forward but the last step of flipping it did not seem like a good idea, this is not a solid wood product, and it gives me the impression that the joins will not hold such movement. it was the perfect size to fit next to my fireplace. i use it to display pictures and to hold books. i have moved into a new condo, and everyone who comes into the living room remarks on this bookcase. i love it, the design is also great! Read more

Perfect for my purpose. It is in my mud room and holds my kitchen books as well. Very easy to follow instructions and I put it together myself (33yr old female). I would recommend to put some foam footings so it doesn't scratch your floor when it's time to move it. Read more

Easy to put together, looks great for the price. People think I spent twice as much on this. The only thing I'll say, I would not recommend installing the bottom risers, they make the piece unstable, and it looks better without it, as it serves no purpose. Read more

Love the look of this bookcase! I did put some dowels to support the lowest shelf on the side with no support because mine started to sag even though the wood seems very sturdy, of course it is piled with books which would have a lot of weight on that lowest shelf. Read more
