These are very versatile and well made. They switch on automatically only in a darkened space, and only if they detect motion, then they shut off automatically. I have used 6 of the MrBeams earlier model (MB706) for 11 years and they have never failed. This new model (MB710) is an even better design. It is easier to remove the light and easier to open to change the batteries. Not just a useful indoor night light! Some of my uses: lighting in a glove box, in our mailbox at the curb, and in our garden shed. Also, over the kitty's litter box so I can check for cleaning at any time. Unlike plug-in night lights, these will work in a power outage, great in an emergency. They are more versatile for placement (you don't need an electrical outlet), and they leave your electrical outlets free for other uses. You will need to supply batteries because batteries are not included. That's a good thing, because most manufacturers' "batteries included" are cheap ones that don't last. I use Duracell CopperTop batteries (45 cents each at Costco) and the batteries last because these nightlights have automatic shutoffs. I really like these motion lights. I use several in the house so you can see where you are going at night, particularly for a nightly trip to the bathroom when you are half awake. These light up well project a good amount of light. This brand is a reputable brand and their products are solid. I have had no problems at all with my other motion lights made by this company. It detects motion readily and lights up right away. Each unit takes 4 AAA batteries so you need to have a good stash of this size battery on hand, particularly if you used a lot of these motion lights. I highly recommend these motion lights. I thought these didn't work, tried changing new batteries for a fresh pack of new batteries and still they didn't function as described. HOWEVER, I discovered the stairwell needed to be real dark before the automatic sensor worked. I tried them during daylight hours and this is why the sensor didn't function. I am extremely happy with the lights now that I have discovered the way they are suppose to function and I have now installed the nightlight on the stairwell wall; and they are working just like described and very helpful using the stairs without an overhead light. Total junk. These do not work. Thought my batteries were maybe old so ordered new ones. Lights still do not come on unless you take the batteries and spin them around. They will come on but will not activate with motion. Read more

Have used these lamps for last 9 years, very nice product. Setup along stairwells to upper floor and basement. Motion sensing is just right when moving up and down stairs, like that they are light sensitive so they don't turn on in the day. I use AAA rechargeable batteries and have to swap about monthly with a family of five moving up and down the stairs. My only issue is the battery compartment seems a bit loose, so I have to "adjust" the batteries slightly to make good contact, with that said, this could be a battery issue as well.
