I don't use the stand, because I store them against a magnetic strip on the wall. The knives look good in the kitchen because they're colorful, but they're practical, too. The colored coating seemes to keep food from sticking too much to the blades. The only thing that I had a bit of trouble cleaning off was darker juices from red meats.
