It's a treat to see some of these older games. I enjoyed this DVD very much, as I should since I am a tOSU fan. I wish the announcer had known that the song is "Hang On, Sloopy", not "Hurry Up, Sloopy". But seeing Rex Kern, Jack Tatum, and the other tOSU greats play was excellent. And to think that in those days, freshmen couldn't play, so that was essentially their first season. This DVD is marketed by Ohio State, and is obviously a highlight of Buckeye tradition as it was a big win that gave them the 1968 national title. But as a USC alum I heartily endorse this for your Trojan collection, as Troy indeed did, in the words of former L.A. Times sports editor Owen Bird, "fight like Trojans" in noble defeat. It is a great piece of "time travel" in beautiful "living color," brought to you by the NBC peacock with the legendary Curt Gowdy at the height of his game, along with Kyle Rote. The Rose queen introduces it with fabulous big 1968-69 hair, but the images of the Rose Bowl, the snow-capped San Gabriels, the Arroyo Seco, are the same as today, which is why this is the "Granddaddy of 'em all." The Buckeyes were one of the best teams ever, but so were the Trojans. Jack Tatum laid some wicked hits in this game for Ohio State, but observing O.J. Simpson in his prime is proof that as good as Reggie Bush is, he has nothing on Juice. O.J. was big, swift, shifty; better than Jim Brown? Maybe, maybe not, but very close. As good as any college back ever. It was also reminiscent of Bush's last game when his fumble hurt SC in the loss to Texas at the '06 Rose Bowl. O.J.'s and Steve Sogge's fumbles cost the '68 team, as well! This was one of those number one vs. two games, a rarity before the BCS, one for the ages. Fight On! and congratulations, Ohio State. . . Great old game. OJ Simpson was the man! But even the man cant beat the better team. I believe this is called b Kurt Gowdy who has no idea who anyone is on the field besides OJ, Stillwagon, and Rex Kern. This is one of the best college bowl games ever--the first time the top two ranked teams met in the Rose Bowl. It had Woody Hayes, at his finest hour, Rex Kern, O.J. Simpson, before he was a criminal, his pal, Al Cowling, etc. etc. The color is great. The graphics are a bit primitive by today's standards, but the game was perfect, especially if you are a Buckeye fan. Then comes play by play announcer Curt Gowdy, who apparently didn't do much homework, because he mispronounces players' names and describes plays that never took place, It's hard to understand why he lasted so long in broadcasting. He was a USC fan and a Red Sox fan--and it showed. Take away a star for the announcing of Gowdy here. Read more

This DVD is a throwback to my childhood. The 1969 Rose Bowl was the first football game I watched in color. Being a life-long Ohioan and Woody Hayes & OSU Buckeye die-hard, this is a must have for my library of championships (as few as we may have seen in our life times). Love it! Read more

Replay of Ohio State's 'super sophomores' (Rex Kern, Jim Otis, Jack Tatum, et al) victory over USC and Heisman winner OJ Simpson. Even though the Buckeyes were ranked #1 going into the game, most pundits did not think they could defeat the powerful Trojans. Brought back lots of memories from that game. Read more
