A worthwhile but flawed presentation
There is a lot to criticize about this DVD and a lot that could obviously have been done better. But as a documentary and explanation of the Arnhem drop and moves toward the bridge it does a reasonable job for those not familiar with the battle and those who are. It offers more specific detail than any other DVD I ahve seen. In some ways it is the overall high quality of the content that makes the deficiencies in presentation more frustrating. Whether it is worth the cost will simply come down to a individual's preference and interest in the battle. But overall it is a worthwhile watch with some nice detail on the battle. Note to U.S. viewers: The DVD, as with most of the UK produced documentaries, is Region 2. You can get a lot of Region 2 players (or multi-region) on Amazon for $30 or so and it is worth getting one just to watch the many fine DVDs produced by UK publishers. Good points: -good use of maps -nice on location shots -some interesting use of color reenactment footage -some good veteran interviews -excellent overall explanation of battle -nice, but brief, look at weapons Bad points -use of maps could have been done better and made clearer -veteran interviews could often have been better used as voice over of other imagery -use of maps sometimes unclear or should have been zoomed -often odd cuts between differnt scenes -use of reenactment footage often odd and same actors sometimes playing both sides -better use of historic photos could certainly have been done Read more
