I looked at a lot of docking stations for my Mac mini M4 before choosing this one, because it offered 40 GB per second speed and also seem to be a quality build with good cooling. I am not disappointed at all, it hooked up easily, I put in a 2TB drive in it has been working flawlessly and I get banned with speeds between my iMac and the drive of over 3000 MB per second, which it is very fast and requires a 40 GBPs docking station so I’m very glad I went this route. One thing to know it is if you buy a drive to put in it that already has a thick attached heat sink, it could be a problem because the thick heat sink may not fit. My recommendation to buy a drive without a heat sink because this actually comes with a nice heat sink and the adhesive-sheet material to attach it to the drive. Read more

Overall, this expansion dock for the Mac mini M4 is a slick piece of gear. It blends right in with the Mac’s design, feels sturdy, and adds a ton of functionality without cluttering the desk. Installing my own NVMe SSD was quick, and the transfer speeds are seriously fast, close to what you’d expect from internal storage. The added ports make everyday use easier, and having both headphone and mic jacks built in is great for creators or casual streamers. However I had occasional disconnects when two SSDs were connected. I think power management might an issue if you connect too many SSDs. That said, the magnet holding the bottom lid could have been stronger. It feels a bit weak when attaching or removing it, and I worry it might come loose over time, especially when moving things around. It’s not a dealbreaker, but for something with such a premium build and price, that’s one spot they could definitely improve.
