I wore this on a hike to Havasupai. Osprey is the best for hiking. I tried a smaller version and the back support was not nearly as good as this one. Lots of pockets and great since it has the water pouch including as well as a designated area for it. As comfortable as it can get and the space between the back support and bag keeps you cooler. I've worn this pack on a few hikes now, with between 15 and 25 pounds of gear in it. Very comfortable. This is one of those packs that once adjusted properly on my back, it basically disappears. I like the adjustability in the yoke height, and the load lifters actually do their job. I would like it if this pack was available in more colors, but that's trivial. The material seems durable, and the suspended mesh where my back meets the pack does keep things a bit cooler than other packs I own. The hydration bladder has also worked well for me. Read more

Love this pack for day hikes. The hydration compartment is perfect for convenience, to keep liquid away from pack contents, and to keep the main compartment free from being reduced by the bladder. Comfort is ideal; belt pockets are large; and belt snap was redesigned to be larger. If not full, the pack can be strapped down for less gear. I went with the burnt orange as that’s close to hunting colors. Outside stash pocket can hold wet clothes or a light sweater so you don’t have to open the pack. Read more

I have the Manta 34 (love the Oak Leaf Orange color) and have really enjoyed using it the last nine months. It is definitely a pack that I recommend for longer day hikes or four season adventures. It could be used for some hut-to-hut backpacking trips or very lightweight overnights, but probably too small for multiple overnight excursions or lack of ultralight gear (never tried TBH). Regarding the very similar Osprey Stratos, I compared the feature differences of the Manta with the Stratos (both are great options). In the end I wanted the full zip admin compartment with the stretchy stuff pocket and the water bottle pockets being accessible w/o removing the pack. Something future buyers may be interested, you can easily stow the Manta in an overhead bin when you’re flying. Unfortunately, it’s a little too long to go under the seat. The only complaint I have is the side hip pockets are a pain to close with one-hand, it’s not a deal breaker IMHO, but something to consider. I really don’t use them as a result, or put things in them that I don’t need when hiking (yes, I acknowledge that does defeat the purpose). Also, I have noticed a slight squeak when I wear it, but I also have an Osprey Atmos 65 AG that does that as well and it doesn’t bother me. What is important to me is the fit and comfort of the pack, which this does well. Finally, while the 34L seems like a lot, the pack comes with compression straps to cinch it down pretty good for those hikes you don’t need to carry as much. I debated going with the smaller 24L but glad I chose the 34L. Read more

The media could not be loaded. I’m a disabled vet with multiple back surgeries and I’ve finally found a backpack that’s comfortable, has all the storage I need for overnight, while having the adjustment of a 23” torso!! This pack looks good, feels good, has strong frame support while the mesh backing panel keeps amazing airflow. My favorite feature though is the front loaded water bottle holders!!! No more trying to be a contortionist to get a water bottle in place. Osprey was genius with this front pocket design for those is is with stubby arms. I’ve done over 30 miles since purchase and it’s functioning well above my expectations while holding plenty of weight comfortably across my hips providing lasting durability. Highly recommend this pack. One note of caution is that the shoulder straps feel stiff when new, but kneading them with your hands for 5-10 minutes softens them up so don’t just expect them to feel stiff all the time. Read more
