I'm a long time user, and endorser, of Timbuk 2 bags for professional use. Their bags have long been my go-to when in need of a career oriented bag that will stand up to the rigors of travel and daily use. Osprey, on the other hand, had been a long time favorite maker when I'm in the market for a fabulous outdoor bag. That's why I was surprised to see this type of messenger bag become available from Osprey. Because they are such a trusted brand, I decided to purchase this bag when it had dropped in price. I'm glad I did! The quality is exactly what I've come to expect from Osprey, and certainly equivalent to Timbuk 2. It's very comfortable and provides a lot of stashing options for all your needs. Perhaps I've become so used to the layout of Timbuk 2 bags that I've had a bit of a challenge getting used to the different layout of the bag itself. It's not worse, just different. Like other large messenger bags, it's big enough to fit a laptop and numerous papers, books and/or documents, writing implements, water bottles and assorted efluvia. It's simply a great, rugged, yet sharp-looking, bag! Definitely worth it's price. Five stars all the way around. 👍 Read more
Lots to like here. To start with, the back side has a vented mesh to prevent it from getting too hot during the summer. In the front, a well gusseted flap covers two zippered pockets. The first one runs the length of the entire bag, is padded, and contains 5 mesh pockets for pens and other accessories. The second zippered pocket is in front of the first, running about 2/3 of the bag and is just for storage. The main compartment is substantially expandable, and has a hard backing in both the front and the back of the bag. Towards the front of the main compartment, there's a dual compartment padded sleeve for your laptop and/or tablet, fitting what seems to be up to a 16". There is a velcro closure over the laptop compartment. Also in the main compartment, there's a mesh pocket on the left side for your umbrella or water bottle. The main compartment has two handles which are quite useful to pick up the bag when the flap is open. When the flap is closed, there's a main grab handle in the back that is padded. On the bottom is a zippered compartment for the rain cover. The main shoulder strap is large to cover both the shoulder and chest, and is very adjustable from both sides for wearing on either shoulder, with plenty of slack that can be rolled up with a velcro tie. There are two chest straps depending on how you prefer to wear the bag, and the unused one can be hidden away inside the bag itself. All of the zippers have a pull tab which is convenient. All of the straps have additional ties that secure them close to the bag so that they or their slack don't flap around when unused, which is an excellent touch. Bluesign certification and being made of recycled materials is nice to see, though I would have preferred higher denier count. The main reasons why I drop one star is that firstly, the straps that secure the flap, as well as the chest straps that go across the chest, are quite thin. About 5/8" for the former, and about 1/2" for the latter. Secondly, the hardware on them really doesn't inspire confidence. They are small plastic buckles that don't seem like they will hold up over time. Overall there's a lot to like here, but at this price point I would hope to see wider straps, with more substantial buckles. Read more
with todays electronic gadgets that i carry around where ever i go, i need to put all of my essentials (for me) in a bag. this is the perfect size for my stuff including my laptop ! the bag itself is light, stylish and roomy! nice crossbody carry while biking or commuting. Read more
cool messenger bag but it's very soft with no structure so the laptop protection is poor at best. if the bag was deeply discounted and my intent wasn't to carry around an expensive laptop, i'd consider this bag. but for me, it's a return. Read more
This Osprey messenger bag is wonderful for work, travel, and commuting. It looks professional and streamlined, which means it fits well into so many different settings. I really like the Magma brown color, which is a rich dark brown with a slight burgundy tinge. This bag was thoughtfully designed with many small but important details. The main pocket is quite large, with a lightly padded area near the front for tablets, etc - useful, but also easy to hide away with the velcro strap when not in use. There is a very large organization pocket with a variety of small pockets, pen sleeves, a key hook, etc. The very front pocket is deep and apparently designed for a bicycle U-lock. The underside of the bag has a small hidden pocket that contains an attached rain cover. There are several well-placed handles in various locations on the bag. The straps are wide, stitching is strong, and the buckles are all a very nice quality. The straps also have small velcro loops to bind any excess strap and prevent it from hanging loosely. The large shoulder strap is well-cushioned and very comfortable to wear. There is a small cross-body strap that goes under your arm to stabilize the bag on your back when riding (or just moving through the world) - I absolutely love this feature, it makes the bag feel more stable like a backpack rather than a regular messenger bag. One thing I will note is that this bag has to be worn on your right shoulder. The curvature of the large strap and placement of the under-arm strap are not correct from the other side. I don't mind this too much, though I do tend to keep most other crossbody bags on my right shoulder. Outside of this minor detail, this is one of the most functional and versatile bags that I own.
