This is my first safety razor so I don't have something to compare it to. With that said, I love my purchase. The razor feels solid because it is. The weight and length are great. It is heavier compared to the Gillette razors which is wonderful. The length is also great as I have bigger hands. I also love the butterfly opening to get access to the blade. Cool feature! The shave is just fantastic. I will not go back to the old multiple blade razors. Like the other reviewers say just let the razor do the work and do not press into your skin. The badger brush looks really nice and works well so far. I never used a brush before but don't know why. It is great. A few hairs came out of the brush to start but that's about it. I purchased this for myself because I wanted to move away from disposable razors which contribute to landfill waste and aggravate my sensitive skin. I did a good deal of research before choosing this one and I am very satisfied with my choice. I love this razor. The transition to straight edge was easy. I have only cut myself once and not badly. The weight of the razor feels comforting in my hand and I do feel like I get a smoother more comfortable shave with fewer razor bumps and with a greater degree of enjoyment of the entire process. This is an outstanding set from the quality provider of shaving products, Parker. I was drawn to this set due to this unique classic horizontal shaving stand. Convinced I could not purchase it any other way, I bought the set. My first surprise was the Parker 29L Razor. meticulously engineered and solid in manufacture, this piece of double edge genius shaves like a dream. It has become my favorite razor, and make-no-mistake, I am comparing with my other razors costing approximately $70 alone, and this gem out-shaves them all! Although I previously acquired a Parker premium Silver-tip Boar Bristle shaving brush, I prefer this brush, since bristles are stiffer and hold up to firm British shaving soaps I use, and I find it easier to rinse clean than my more expensive Silver-tip Boar Bristle Brush. In summary, I love the unique design of this horizontal set, the unsurpassed quality, and compact size of the shaving stand. I recently purchased this set in order to wean myself off of the cartridge style shaving. The brush and safety razor and stand all appear to be well made and shine brilliantly on my humble bathroom counter. The razor feels good and sturdy in my hand but when shaving I find I would like a longer handle. The brush is the first I have ever used and I like the feel of it. At first it was stiffer than I expected and a month later it has softened nicely. I found the brush to be too short for use in a coffee mug, but maybe that is a technique I couldn't figure out. I use a little blue plastic bowl that once contained a toddler-sized portion of soup. I would buy this brush again. I believe the razor will serve me for decades. Read more

When I first pulled the brush out of the packaging I was surprised by how heavy it is, it took a few times using it to get used to the weight but it feels amazing! I highly recommend you follow the suggestions they send you regarding proper brush care. (They mention using a mild shampoo prior to first use) I lost a bristle or two my first shave, and that was it! I purchased this set because my old safety razor broke, but I'm so glad that I went with a set with a high quality brush. Now onto the razor; my favorite thing about this razor is that you can adjust the opening, allowing you to set how aggressive of a shave you want...it is a bit lighter than my previous razor, but I think it allows for better control when shaving. The materials used are good quality, and feels like it will hold up for years. There's not a whole lot more that can be said about it. It's a lightweight butterfly razor that works really well. If you've been using a safety razor for years, you'll love it. If you're thinking about switching I highly recommend this one, just make sure that you do your research and understand that you can't use this the same way you would a multi-blade razor, and you may cut yourself the first couple times you shave. Beautiful setup. I bought my husband a Merkur Heavy Classic 34C as an anniversary gift. Impressed with the close shave and how it looked in it's stand with fancy brush, I gave it a try. His razor was a bit short for doing the legs and nether regions, but I was impressed enough to search out one for myself. I had never thought of safety razors for women. They certainly don't market them for women and you can't find them in stores. I came across this setup here on Amazon and read all the reviews. Was I ever amazed to read all the women using these things! I've been using this razor now for about a week. It is beautiful, nicely weighted, easy to change the blades, and gives an insanely great shave. I no longer have to shave my underarms every day. I was so impressed with the safety razor as a women's razor that I bought one for my daughter in college. She too is really thrilled. This family will never again buy disposable razors. Read more
