Works like a charm

I can't say this is REALLY gentle, however, that is because the blades are metal. So, just have to go slow and be thorough while brushing your animal. I have two Maine Coons and two Shih Tzus (which is why I purchased this). Both of the cats do shed (though not profusely) and I'd like to stay ahead of the "shedding" game with them. As for the Shih Tzus, sometimes the mats are easily made in their tails and on the rumps. With this, it made it easy to get the mats out and I was also able to get extra hair out that I wouldn't have expected (they don't really shed).
