I used to really be into colored lighting schemes, and my go-to brand was definitely Philips. I loved the saturated colors and the variety of options available when paired with the hub and app. The best part was how easily it integrated with Alexa. I felt trendy and cool walking into my place, telling Alexa to set Prime Video and Chill mode, and watching the lights dim into a sexy blue hue. What I didn’t enjoy, though, were the constant app updates and the high cost. Read more

I really like this product and if it was slightly cheaper it would be the perfect light to use all around the house. Honestly, I have nothing but good things to say besides that this is very heavy on the wallet. The light itself gives beautiful light output with a great app to control countless amount of colors. I have multiple Hue products with 4 of these directly located in my room. The lights are connected to my Amazon Alexa to turn on and off the product. They also have multiple features to create amazing displays used along with the app "IFTTT." For example every time a Cowboy game starts, all my lights turn dark blue. Whenever it starts to rain outside, my lights blink on and off. When music plays, I can make them "dance" to the music. I have also made many lighting scenes in conjunction with Alexa. It has come to the point where I do not even have to go on the app anymore because everything is controlled with my voice. If you have the money to spend I 100% recommend the lights, but they do come with a large price point. Everyone that comes over is amazed with my lighting setup but there are cheaper options available online. I don't believe that any of these, although, compare to the quality of the Philips product. In this case you truly get what you pay for. Read more

I have tried so many of these Color and White smart bulbs both requiring a hub and hubless, and Philips Hue is by far the best. I now have 6 of the colored Hue lights and about 12 of the white ones, and they are fantastic. The Hue software is always evolving and getting better, and the lights just look better overall. I can use Alexa, Apple Homekit, or the App to control the lights, but most of the time they are just on timers and go on and off multiple times during the day when needed, and the colored ones change depending on the time of day, with them being a nice bluish light in the morning and a warm orange or yellowish hue in the evenings. I'm not sure what I can say about these that hasn't already been said but I've tried at least 6 different brands of the generic hubless color lights and yes they technically work but they all have their own apps and quirks. Most work with the Echo, but almost none of those work with Homekit, and are a hassle to set up and use. The color quality also isn't as good. The longest I've had one of these color Hue bulbs is about a year and it's working great, even in an enclosed light fixture. They do get warm when on for a while, but not hot, and I am not seeing any degradation over time. The older bulbs look just like the new ones, and the color is very consistent between bulbs. It's really amazing to touch a button on an app and change the whole room (or house) to a certain color, and with Hue Labs you can do experimental features like colors blending into one another, although personally I think that should be a feature of the main app. Great product, I won't hesitate for a second to give this 5 stars, which is something I've been a lot more cautious about lately in my reviews. Yes, they are pricey, but they are totally worth it. If you buy one a month, you will slowly be able to transform your house and add as much or as little color as you want. It's really impressive looking, especially to someone who hasn't seen this type of lighting before. These lights also work well with motion sensing, and as wake up lights, there is a lot you can do with them. I won't buy any other brand now. These are the best. Read more

I just purchased my second color bulb. Also have two white ambiance in the bedroom and two white lights in the TV room. First, you have to buy a Hue Bridge to get these to work. The Bridge is a one time purchase that will support up to 50 lights. Second these are expensive but giving the product a bad review because of the price is ridiculous as is giving a bad review because a Bridge is required. Finally you have to have an internet signal to the light for it to work. Now for the lights themselves. I have these in multiple rooms, have moved lights around, and made multiple changes to the way I grouped these in the app. All of mine have worked flawlessly. We use the Echo Dot throughout our home and the lights are simple to control via Alexa as long as you use the correct name (remember a table lamp and a table light are different to Alexa). So what can you do with the Hue lights? Turn lights on/off remotely from your phone. Set colors to accent a room (great for football games using team colors). Set lights to come on when your return home so you don't have a dark house - I have mine turn when my phone shows I'm about a mile away and limit to turn on only after sunset. Just purchased a $2 app that had a fireworks program and changes the lights to your music. Adjust the colors, shades of white, and brightness from the app or through Alexa. My suggestion is to pick an area yo want to try and get a starter kit with a couple of lights. If you are like me, you will quickly come up with new ideas to add more lights to other rooms. Read more
