excellent size for tiny sapling trees

I have 5 sapling apple trees all under 10" tall and 3 American Elm saplings about 12" tall. I used these small stakes. They are very sturdy (metal) and long enough to anchor into the ground to keep them sturdy while enough height left at the top to secure the saplings. I did not use the plastic ties for my trees; I used cut strips of panty hose as they are flexible and gentle. You either place the metal loop end around your plant (so it grows through it) or turn it out to the side and just use the metal pole itself. So far they work great. Read more

They work really well.. They hold up my tomato plants nice and secure them nicely on windy days. Very east to use, the only thing wrong, is the tie strips that come with it.. They are very stiff plastic ties, hard to use on gentle plants.. They could be softer and more flexible.. They do work, but they could be a lot more flexible.. Perfect for my tomato plants. As the plant gets taller I can add a section at a time. Only potential issue is as the plants get taller will the stake hold the weight..time will tell. The clamps that hold the plant to the stake are plastic but I don't see a problem w cutting into the plant as it grows. I'm optimistic that this was a good purchase.
