I was surprised by how heavy duty this bag is - it's real canvas and quite rugged. The canvas isn't waxed though so it's not going to keep anything inside dry, but if you were so inclined it'd be easy to wax or Scotch Guard. I love how many pockets it's got! As someone who likes to compartmentalize everything in their bag this is exactly the kind of layout I like, with lots of unexpected little pockets and Nooks to put stuff rather than just one giant empty space that everything is bouncing around in. It's got two pockets on the front: one underneath the flap that sealed with a magnetic snap and then a zipper pocket right above the flap that as big as the entire front of the bag. It'd be a great place to carry a laptop or something. In the main compartment of the bag there's a zipper pocket on the back as well as a larger pocket behind the zipper pocket. It also has two pockets on the side, the kind that are good for carrying a water bottle. Plus the enormous main pocket which can be sealed with a zipper. I like that the strap has a huge range of adjustment. You could wear it over your shoulder or crossbody and if you make it as long as it can go the strap is like almost 4 ft long so you've got a lot of length there. Speaking of the strap that's where my one ding on this bag comes in, which is that the two pieces of hardware on the strap are plastic. It's one thing with the slider but the other piece of plastic holds the strap to the bag and if it broke you'd be pretty screwed. That said I think it'd be fairly easy to replace that piece if you really wanted to, or reinforce it or at least put in a failsafe or something (for example by tying paracord there) so if the plastic were to somehow break it would hold it together until you could fix it. It's pretty solid plastic and I don't think it'd be easy to break, but I hike a lot and these are the kind of things I think about. The rest of the hardware seems very sturdy. The stitching on it is great and solid and there's clearly thought put into having things reinforced and strong so why they drop the ball on those two pieces I have no clue, but I'd call this a really strong and rugged bag - and believe me my standards are pretty high because I work with animals professionally and I hike a lot, so the bags I use see real use and this is as sturdy as anything. Honestly I think this is a great price for this bag even with the two plastic pieces and I'd even say it could be worth more. If they replace the two plastic fixtures with metal and waxed the canvas I'd happily pay $70 for this bag. As it stands I plan to wax the bag and then scotchguard it when I've got free time. Until then I'll just try to stay out of the rain. Great functional bag that has a lot more going for it than just looks. Speaking of which this is a great bag that if you wanted to you could decorate in your own personal style. If I were a few years younger this thing would be covered in patches and pins but nowadays it'll just be wax and Scotch Guard. ;) Read more

I have one one of these purses were so long when it popped up on the screen is something that I could try and exchange for review I was hesitant and giddy and excited all at once because I was hoping that it would be exactly what I was looking for and not some cheap person that falls apart and boy oh boy they did not fail me! I really like this canvas messenger bag! It is very roomy, but not too large to be an everyday bag or purse. My iPad fits in it easily, and there are a few pockets to hold smaller items that tend to fall to the bottom of your bag. This may even become my new personal item bag when traveling on a plane!
