Well-Made Precision Electric Screwdriver with Tons of Bits, Minor Design Issues
I have a lot of screwdrivers, including electric ones, but I wanted something specifically for very small screws used in electronics, knives, and similar items. This kit looked like it would cover those needs, so I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the packaging. It’s nicely presented and, in my opinion, suitable for giving as a gift. The case itself feels solid and well made, with a latch that uses a pivot pin rather than flexible plastic that could break over time. Inside, everything is neatly organized with a dedicated place for each item, including the charging cord, and all of the bits are clearly marked. One discrepancy worth noting is that it came with a magnetic mat rather than a magnetizer, as indicated in the product description. The mat is handy in some situations, but since most of the screws I’ll be working with are stainless steel, it isn’t very useful for holding them. I also would have preferred raised edges on the mat to prevent screws from rolling off. The screwdriver itself is easy to use. Lights on the top clearly show both the charge level and torque setting, and the light at the business end can be turned on or off, which is useful if you don’t need the illumination or want to conserve battery life. After extended testing, the charge indicator still showed all four bars. The included bits cover a very wide range of screw head types, which is excellent, though it does mean you may need to try a few before finding the best fit. That said, I doubt there are many small screws that wouldn’t be covered by this set. The bits appear to be good quality, but I would have liked to see color-coded bands to make it easier to narrow down the correct bit type at a glance. The torque settings are genuinely useful. The speed remains the same while the torque changes, allowing you to use higher torque for stubborn screws and the lower setting for screws that go in easily and could otherwise be stripped. It has enough power to remove most screws I tried. In a few cases, I loosened the screw manually first and then used reverse to finish removing it. The driver also works well when used manually. My biggest issue is that the forward and reverse buttons are very easy to press accidentally when using the screwdriver manually. In one instance, the palm of my hand hit the reverse button while I was tightening a screw, causing it to back out and fall to the floor. This wouldn’t be an issue when using it powered, but a lockout feature for manual use would be a welcome improvement. Overall, the solid case, wide selection of bits, adjustable torque, optional light, and comfortable form factor make this a very capable precision screwdriver. The included accessories add value as well, especially the long, metal-tipped tweezers, which are very helpful for handling small screws. I’m taking off one star due to the accidental button activation during manual use and the mismatch between the advertised magnetizer and the included magnetic mat.
