Every knife needs to be sharpened to its own angle. I have a cleaver that was on its way to the trash can. It has a large, wide, heavy blade. I set the dial on the sharpener to the appropriate angle. In a couple of minutes I could easily thinly slice an apple. I have not tried the scissor or serrated setting yet. The knife that is in the gift style box is a high quality bonus.
