I hesitated to buy this after I read the few negative reviews, but went ahead and bought it anyway. I’m so glad I did. I love this grater. I love that the grate holes are on both sides. It makes it easier and more efficient to be able to grate in a back and forth motion. And, it is not hard to use at all, so I am not sure where the negs were coming from. The container is a plus. No more cheese all over the counter. Update: Nov 2022, I have this grater since 2019 and still love it. It has been used frequently, is regularly put in the dishwasher, and is still as good as the day I bought it. The rubber feet are intact, and it still grates like new. Best grater I have ever purchased. If there was one thing I would change, it is the cup markings. They seem to go the wrong way. However, I never look at them, preferring to use my favorite measuring cups, so it does not detract from my rating. Read more

I've been without a grater for several years, mostly because I thought I didn't need one. I have a small microplane, but it doesn't work on cheese or larger amounts of chocolate, etc. My food processor can be used, but it's a lot of trouble for small tasks, so I mostly chopped cheese and such with a knife. It seems graters have been greatly improved, if judged by this one. I used it the other day for the first time to shred cheese and was happily surprised by how little physical effort was needed. It doesn't slip on the countertop and the clip on container is very handy for measuring and keeping the grated material all in one place. The shredder appears to be well made and washes up easily. I like this grater for two reasons - 1. It's designed to lay on it's side. So many of these box graters only work in a vertical position and that's where I normally lose a finger tip. 2. It grates in two directions. Most graters only grate one way. this one grate two ways so you can grate with a back and forth movement the works faster. It's just a better idea. Read more

I got this to replace my OXO Goodgrips shredder that finally gave up after losing two of it's "feet." I like using a triangular shredder better than a box shredder and I thought this one would be a good replacement. It is, in fact, useful and does a relatively good job. However, even with the interior container catching the shreds, I find that shredding cheese creates a bit of a mess. It doesn't all go inside the container and little pieces end up on the counter. Is this a big problem? No, but it's enough of an annoyance to say 4 stars. My old OXO grater kept everything inside and all I had to do was shred on a piece of foil or waxed paper. I also do this with the 2-way Grate and Measure, but it's not as neat. I do like the ability to shred in both directions. Read more

I grate all kinds of cheese from hard, Italian cheese to cheddar and have always used a box grater ~ until my arthritic hands made it more difficult. Enter this marvelous grater! Because it has a container to catch the cheese as I grate it I can use it standing up or laying down. The two way grating direction makes it faster and easier to do hard cheeses. I just love this!
