I ordered this knife sharpener to see how it could improve the cutting ability of our kitchen knives. FUNCTIONALITY Before beginning, we cut a slice of cranberry cheddar cheese to compare with a slice after sharpening. After reading the instructions on the box, we sharpened the knife, then cut another slice of cheese. There was an improvement in slicing ease. We then tried removing the grinding head to remove any metal shards, but it wouldn’t come loose. We didn’t want to risk hurting ourselves or damaging the sharpener. OBSERVATIONS —There were many imperfections; in the sharpener’s housing, where the blade slots are seated in the handle — and in one corner of the metal assembly holding the blades. —We saw no evidence of rubber on the base; the material around the four rectangle areas appeared to be plastic. The sharpener slid around dangerously on the counter and on our glass cutting board. For safety, we placed it on a silicone pad. —The box showed two different views of the same product number; one with four slots; the other with three, this with a different slot configuration. This is confusing. —The instructions describe usage by right-handed people, but not for those who are left-handed. CONCLUSION The knife sharpening process works as described. There were quality issues in the base, importantly including the lack of a non-slip bottom, a safety issue. Confusion with two different items shown on one side of the box — and the clarity of instructions on the other side need attention. Read more

I bought this 4-in-1 manual knife sharpener as a backup because I already own a similar style sharpener that has performed well for years. Unfortunately, the quality difference was immediately noticeable upon unboxing. The body is made of very lightweight plastic, and despite the claim of an ergonomic, non-slip design, I felt it was hard to hold steady while sharpening. The sharpener tended to shift during use, which made controlled, consistent passes challenging. I did not see any instructions were included in the package. I used it the same way I use my existing multi-slot sharpener, following the typical progression through the coarse, medium, and fine slots. Before trying it on any good knives, I tested it on an old knife specifically to avoid damage. After sharpening, the blade edge felt rough when checked and performed worse in actual cutting than it had prior to sharpening. The edge did not feel clean or refined, and cutting performance was noticeably worse with that knife.. Based on this result, I stopped using the sharpener immediately. I did not test the scissor-sharpening slot, but my experience with the knife slots was enough to raise concerns about potential blade damage, particularly for higher-quality knives. Given the low price point, this may be intended as a basic or disposable tool, but in my experience it did not deliver usable sharpening results and felt poorly constructed compared to the similar sharpener I already own.
