No good for petroleum products

Do not use with petroleum base solvents, it will dissolve in 60 days. Basically useless with solvent tanks that use anything other than water based surfactants. Read more

Good pump, nice price, Potential usage issues though!

Being that this jbocier PWP40 Parts Washer Pump was the first time I've seen a parts washer pump on the vine program, and actually needing a replacement pump for my parts washer due to it having a no longer trustworthy pump impeller (I've managed to get by with it for a long time though, amazingly enough!) and also not able to find any replacement parts or pump assembly for the model of parts washer I happen to have, I jumped at the opportunity to get this pump and ordered it nearly immediately as soon as I saw it. That, my fellow Amazonians, was not the greatest idea.... I will explain, but first: In the box: 1x jbocier branded, and described "Universal" type submersible parts washer pump assembly with a detachable front (intake side) plate, mounting slots, and "short" (approximately 14") 120v insulated wiring pigtail with shielded spade connectors and ground wire lead terminated with a "loop" connector. 1x plastic pump outlet fitting (3/4"-(19mm) x 2" long, but no idea on the thread pitch, assuming NPT though) with an installed O-ring, and an additional included spare O-ring packed in a small, Ziploc style bag. There are no included installation or usage instructions, and the pump as shipped, also has no recommended solvent type use documentation, or recommendations. The pump does have 2x warnings which are printed in small print underneath a large "WARNING" which reads: "Do not operate without water" and "Must maintain grounding properly". Please note: parts washers can, and do, use multiple types of solvents that can be petroleum/chemically based, or water based, and using a pump that isn't certified for use with petroleum or chemically based solvents can quite possibly result in, to put it mildly: BAD THINGS HAPPENING. 🚒🤕🚑🔥☠️ That said, most parts washer pumps are usually hermetically sealed against liquid intrusion into the motor assembly, but pump shaft seals, and their ability to withstand the solvents they're being used in = very important! If they leak, you will likely get liquid intrusion into the pump motor, and I don't think I have to say much about what liquid intrusion does to electric motors, or what can happen if "aggressive" and flammable liquids manage to get into an electric motor.... So here is where my exuberance on snagging this particular parts washer pump became nearly a total backfire for doing so; This pump is either a "knockoff" unit, or "rebranded" one (I'm not exactly sure which) of a AP 2000 type parts washer pump assembly which is apparently found on many manufacturer's parts washer pumps, and it took me a bit of "Homework" to chase down specifics about it to find a very important bit of information I absolutely needed to know before I installed this pump to my parts washer; Can I use petroleum/chemical based solvents with this pump?? The answer to that is a big, fat, NO. This pump can only be used with water based solvents. And that, pretty much ended my idea of using this pump in my current parts washer, at least for the immediate future because my parts washer definitely uses petroleum based solvents and is used to clean really grungy engine parts and driveline components. The item is now packed back up in its shipping box for the time being, but it will not be forgotten about though! It gets to wait until I come up with a plan and the right gear for it to in fact, still use it as a parts washer pump in a parts washer, but it will have to be one that uses water based solvents instead of petroleum/chemically based ones. Since the pump is a "Universal" design + fits many models of parts washers out there, it won't be long to either create a home made water-based parts washer for this pump, or possibly chase up another parts washer at a garage sale to convert to the same - I know there's a way to "get there", and I can actually use a parts washer that does indeed use water based solvents, for cleaning things that don't need more powerful cleaning agents to achieve their cleaning prep. 😁 Lesson: Read the ad! Pay attention to what the ad says, or doesn't say! 🙄 Oh, and just to at least be certain the pump wasn't "D.O.A." - I did hook it up to a 120 volt testing rig I use for checking operation on various items I happen to have the need to do so on, and with just a quick couple of seconds of on/verify works/off, I was rewarded with a perfectly operating pump. Glad to at least know it will indeed work for its now revised future! Recommended if you need a WATER BASED SOLVENT parts washer pump! At review time (1/2026 @ $23.49) it was budget-friendly enough to catch my attention as well as it being a parts washer pump! Lack of "definitive" solvent usage though, weighs a lot on my rating for the pump, as the advertisement should say something about it, and the pump itself should definitely say so also, either printed on the label attached to the pump body, or as included documentation packed with the pump at its manufacturing point, as it's rather important to know what types of solvents the pump can work with because using the wrong solvents can very well = a liability issue for sure. I'm giving the item 3-Stars for the review, due to that particular thing, but the pump itself does indeed work, and appears to be at least decently enough made to do its designed job, just not for me at the moment. Shop wisely, my fellow Amazonians! 😊 Read more

Great pump for parts washers!

This was an absolute perfect replacement pump for my harbor freight parts washer. In all fairness, the original pump lasted over 20 years. I believe the only reason it failed is because the parts washer became inundated with solvents which eventually ate at the internals. I don’t use solvent based cleaners in my parts washer but over time, gasoline, diesel, thinners, paint end up in the mix from washing parts. This pump puts out the exact same flow as the original but it’s much heavier. I’m hoping that’s because it’s good quality but only time will tell. So far, I’m super happy with it and would definitely buy it again if I had to in the future. The fact that it was set up exactly like the old one made it a snap to install. Read more
