Rain Design 10032 mStand Laptop Stand Silver Patented

After running into issues of poor height elevation and heat management with my MacBook, I decided to look into laptop stands. Once I came across the mStand and its stellar reviews, I knew I had to give it a chance. I can be quite a skeptic and a critic so I was unsure whether or not I could trust the reviews. However, upon receiving the product and using it everyday for a few months, I can easily say that it has been one of the best investments I’ve made this year. Pros: - Amazing and highly effective heat transfer from the aluminum (my MacBook fan never goes off and is fairly cool even after heavy use) - Very durable and sturdy (from the rubber feet to the quality of the aluminum, the mStand is exceptionally made) - Perfect height and angle (it provides great elevation to eye level and helps improve posture and overall laptop user experience) - Great form and design (the stand feels and looks like an Apple product — minimal, beautiful, sleek) - Mimics the feel of a customizable desktop setup without the hassle Cons: - Difficult to use without a supplemental keyboard and trackpad/mouse Final thoughts: This stand has exceeded my expectations in every way. I did not think I could ever be so impressed by a laptop stand! It is perfect in conjunction with my supplemental keyboard and trackpad and it helps make any and all work on the laptop easier. At first I was little skeptical about this product even though I saw many good reviews about it. At least I was not thinking that it could work as a heat sink and help to reduce heat. But now I've been using it for days and all of my doubts went away. It is not a review that I put once I got the product, but actually I am writing this after I used the product for days. 1. First of all, it is very sturdy product. You can feel the build quality when you touch it. 2. I was scared that my laptop can slide away from on it but the rubbers on it really keep my MacBook Pro 15" safe and secure. It doesn't slide at all. You need to put good amount of force to move your mac around on it. This is really nice! 3. You can use your external keyboard and mouse since it will make some space on your desk. I like to organize my keyboard and mouse as how I feel comfortable with them and this stand is allowing me to do so. 4. It lifts the computer so that you can sit more ergonomically and work better. You don't have to bend your head down to see the monitor or keyboard.This is really great feeling when you spend too much time like me coding and reading. 5. At first I thought it was too small for a 15" laptop but when I got the product and use it, it was not that small. It is perfect fit for a 15" MacBook Pro. 6. It looks like a part of your MacBook and doesn't stand out too much. The color and material are a very nice fit if you like Mac designs. 7. It indeed works as a heat sink. Don't expect it to be an ice but it is usually quite cool because of its aluminum material and I see lower temperatures, which is great! 8. This stand feels premium, with very precisely machined surfaces and a nice matte finish. I own two of these, and they're very stable and durable. Neither has had issues where the grip pads become loose or detached. It's simply a well-built, attractive stand. One point to consider is that this stand is not adjustable. One on hand, this keeps the design simple and makes it extremely sturdy, but on the other hand, you're stuck with the configured angle and height. If you want to be able to raise the height of the laptop or to angle it more aggressively to increase desk space, you're out of luck. The stand does have a fairly big footprint and the angle is such that it's almost intrusive on keyboard and mouse space. That being said, I find it very usable and a good balance. Recommended! This is an amazing stand in many ways and after reading the reviews, it's definately a keeper. Some notable characteristics: Heavy, solid, one piece, rubber bumpers protects the computer including the lip and under the unit to protect the desk, one size fits all. I have a 13" Macbook Pro but I've also placed my old 15" Dell monster laptop and it doesn't budge. The best part is that the U-shape is open facing you. I have a separate keeyboard drawer so the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse pad sits there. This frees up additional desk space and as I'm working, my papers, copies and binders can reside there while I'm typing away. My older plastic laptop stand was solid in front with drawers and took up the desk space. So with the mStand, the space is freed up. Very nice and sleek design and blends with the Mac perfectly. My only gripe (and it's minor) is the packaging. Oh, the unit is solidly packed and came in perfect condition, but it's over packed. The mStand wants to give you that "Apple" unboxing experience and it's quite an experience: large slick white box nicely designed with a carrying handle and added cardboard to keep it from shifting. It might qualify for the over packed award from Consumer Reports. This unit is so solid, you can just wrap it in brown paper and put a shipping label on it. The unit will still be delivered in perfect condition. Bottom line: Great laptop stand. Doesn't tilt, doesn't swivel, doesn't move and that's important for me. Saves desk space, good height, and solid one piece unit. May you have a good paper recycling program in your area. Enjoy! Read more
