Great product to replace expired fridge water filter. Last one I bought at Lowe's last year was $35, saw these on Amazon 2 for $16...was skeptical after reading some negative reviews about fit, charcoal in water after installation, etc. Ordered them to try. Easy factory replacement install. Directions say to run 2-3 gallons of water thru filter after install to charge the charcoal in filter (this was same directions for Fridgidare replacement filters). First gallon had some charcoal in water, water was dark (same reaction when I previously installed Frigidare filters)....second and third gallons clear as a mountain stream. No taste but pure, clean water. I am very satisfied with these filters as replacements as well as the excellent price for 2 filters. I recommend. Read more
I love my fridge. I love my through the door water and ice. I HATE changing the filter. Our fridge is now "old" (12 years makes it old, right?, LOL). And while I don't normally have issues finding the manufacturer filter at the local big box stores, this last time, they were out of them. Then I remembered, who shops in stores now? Hello Amazon prime! As I was getting ready to cart the manufacturer brand, I saw this filter taunting me on the screen. Much cheaper and several reviews. I read through a bunch of reviews, and then decided to gamble with my family's lives and save a few dollars. When the filter arrived, I swapped our nasty old one out, and put this one in. I did fill a few more pitchers then I normally do, as some reviews stated it takes longer to get the filter dust, black/grey water to filter out then the original one. Honestly I didn't really find that to be true. Here we are, several months into use, and so far none of my family members, or my cat have died. So I call that a win! Kidding aside, I honestly see no difference between this one and the manufacturer one we've used for 12 years. I guess I should have jumped ship and started using these years ago. Great tasting water. Identical to the taste from the (much more expensive) Frigidaire OEM filter. Basically, that's all there is to say. This filter looks pretty much identical to the OEM one (the cap on mine was white instead of blue), and the filtration qualities are identical to it. After running a couple gallons through (necessary for any new filter), the taste coming out is fresh and clean just like the OEM's was when new. -- UPDATE -- Eight months later, the filter stopped working rather suddenly. We had clean well-filtered water coming through here for just a little over eight months of heavy use by a family of eight who drink a lot of water. Note that eight months is longer than the recommended six-month replacement interval (I missed my phone alarm to change it...), so no complaints on longevity. The sudden change to unfiltered water is actually kind of nice, rather than a slow descent into unfiltered-tasting water; it very clearly reminded me that I'd "slept through" that alarm a few months back! I would recommend buying a multi-pack to have extras on hand in case your usage causes it to stop working before six months is up, and change it at six months regardless (I didn't do that on last purchase because I was suspicious that the much-cheaper filter might not perform as well as the OEM, but now I reordered a three-pack and will keep at least one on hand at all times). The filter works great with our refrigerator and the price is great. When I price checked at our local big box store this filter was $40. The only reason I didn't get it a 5 was because when we installed it and ran water through the first time a big black chunk came out and we had to run a couple of pitcher through before there was no more black. Maybe this is normal but if it is I wish they would have put that in the instructions. Read more
First of all, I was one of those people that bought a Frigidaire water filter when needed for years. About $28 a pop at Lo**'s each time. Then I noticed Amazon sold "similar" water filters that were as good as the OME, assuming that the OME was the best tasting. Not always the case, OME being the best? I bought a 3-pack of some replacement brand filters & figured it was better than my tap water, a true statement. I don't want "cr*p" in my water that others feel I need? Used those up & noticed a few new ones but wanted to find the best one before buying 3. I know, only around $20, but there must be a difference! After reading reviews, which we know aren't always "kosher", I choose this "Refresh" filter. Took it out of the box, looked it over & decided it looked like my OME filter, as do the others. Installed it, ran the appropriate amount of water through & finally tasted it. Personally, water should be drank cool, not cold. You can taste the water better when cool & not a shock to your system! This filter produces GREAT water, not just good. A little towards the "soft" side, a difference than before & IMO, a sign that more minerals, etc., was filtered. Honestly, excellent water & will buy the 3-pack when needed. A long review about water but I drink almost a gallon a day & have been for years.
