As a huge fan of rock and roll and one who saw Elvis during his initial appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in the 50s, this biography of Alan Freed is absolutely spectacular. I would recommend it to anyone who is a great lover of rock and roll. Read more

The first parts are the most original, with an emphasis on the south that is missing from most radio histories. Especially good on WLAC. The final twenty minutes on Wolfman Jack are naive and, for me at least, wasted; and there is an amateur quality to all of it, but I learned a great deal and it held my interest for the most part.
