The right filter for the fridge
Who would have thought a refrigerator water filter could have so many considerations. I buy the Samsung filter because it’s supposed to do what it says it does for the number of gallons my fridge sees going through the filter. I live in a town with old lead water pipes and though the lead level is supposed to be safe I prefer to remove it. The Samsung filter is certified to remove lead. Off brands may or may not be certified to remove lead but are they working for the life of the filter as monitored by the fridge? The fridge monitors water through the filter, not quality of the water coming out of the filter. The fridge says it’s time to replace the filter based on the life of their filter. Using the Samsung filter I believe I’m getting the filtration I want for the life of the filter so it’s worth a bit more money twice a year. Have to comment on the new packaging. The filter used to come in a cardboard box but it’s now a plastic clamshell. Do we really need to switch to plastic? Also, it’s difficult to open and produces sharp pointy plastic parts. Not a big deal but kind of a nonsensical change. Read more
Great product
This filter was very easy to replace in my fridge. I did have some black specks in my ice for about five trays worth of ice before the ice was clear. Make sure you dump your ice tray a few times after replacing the filter. I will buy this product again. I did pick this over the off-brand filters because I wanted to make sure it was actually effective. This one is quite a bit more money than the off-brand filters, but so far it has been worth it.
