The Satechi products are sturdy and built well. We have bought several products from Satechi, but now reviewing the foldable phone/tablet holder. The holder works great, and holds either a phone or a tablet securely. Its weight is well balanced, and does not tip over. It is easy to place your phone/tablet in the holder, and even easier to remove it from the holder. Satechi has a lot of products that particularly compliment Apple products. If you are an Apple owner/user and not familiar with Satechi, check them out. Great products. I also have experience with their customer support, and they are thorough and responsive. In my experience, they follow-up responsibly to ensure your your satisfaction with their product. Sturdiness: Very good. Ease of use: Simple. Adjustment capability: Easily adjusts Foldability: Folds flat making it portable Why did you pick this product vs others?: Satechi brand name and quality of their products Read more

The rubber edges of the folio cover that came with my Asus Slate have begun to lose their grippiness, causing the folio to lose its effectiveness as a kickstand for the tablet. That sent me online in search of a stand that would meet my needs (primarily reading, watching video, surfing the web). Let me begin by saying that the R1 is *not* intended to be used with an Asus Slate EP121. My 12.1" tablet weighs 2.5 lbs and has a 0.7" thickness, so I was not sure whether the R1 would be up to the task, especially since I wanted to leave the tablet in its original folio cover (which would add an additional pound to the tablet's weight and a lot more depth). I'm glad I decided to give the R1 a try. As it turned out, the R1 suited my needs perfectly. I just allow the folio's bottom edge to sit in the R1's supports. The R1 beautifully replicates the viewing angles provided by the original folio when the R1's holder is allowed to rest on my workspace or on its base, and the R1 will even securely hold the tablet aloft in both landscape and portrait orientation as long as the middle segment of the R1 is maintained in a more vertical position. I did try placing my Slate in the R1 without its folio cover and discovered that it can be done. However, the R1 definately is not meant to hold a tablet of the Slate's thickness. The Slate needs to be tilted forward in order to fit in the R1's supports. Because of this, there is no back support for the tablet, and this means that pressure points will be created where the R1's supports meet the tablet. However, the Slate does feel secure in the stand. The R1 appears well made and durable. It has a quality look and feel. Very easy to use. All in all, the R1 has been a pleasant surprise when paired with a tablet with specs it was never designed to accomodate at all. Very happy with this purchase! Read more

This iPad stand/dock is very sturdy and the perfect accessory for the iPad. I use it everyday, it comes in handy when I’m cooking and need to constantly look at a recipe. It’s heavier than I expected but I guess that’s to be expected and adds to the sturdy-ness. I think it might be too heavy to travel with it, but the foldability is definitely a plus. I would recommend this to everyone that buys an iPad and will probably buy another one in the future. I also like the color, I purchased the black one and it’s very low profile and looks great with my space gray ipad. The rubber is also a very nice feature and I haven’t had any issues with it scratching my iPad or with my iPad sliding around. Read more

JUST GOT THE R1 ARM. PLACED MY NEW IPAD (3) ON THE HOOK. TURNED ON MY BLUETOOTH WIRELESS KEYBOARD FROM APPLE (MINI VERSION). PUT ON A CLEAR/WHITE PLASTIC BACK COVER ON THE IPAD (WITH THE APPLE LOGO STILL VISIBLE) AND STOOD BACK. MY BREATH WAS TAKEN AWAY. GOD THIS DEVICE WAS MADE FOR THE IPAD. IT IS SO ESTHETICALLY BEAUTIFUL THAT IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DREAMED UP BY STEVE JOBS AND CO. TOGETHER, THE ARM, IPAD AND KEYBOARD REALLY DO LOOK LIKE A BABY iMAC. WHY SOME DESIGN GEEK FROM APPLE DID NOT COME UP WITH SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DESIGN AND SOLD IT FOR 3X AS MUCH AS I PAID FOR THIS DEVICE IS BAFFLING. IF YOU ARE INTO ESTHETICALLY HARMONIOUS ACCESSORIES FOR YOUR APPLE PRODUCTS THEN THIS IS ONE SUCH DEVICE. ITS BRUSHED ALUMINUM MATCHES THE KEYBOARD EXACTLY!!! ANYWHERE YOU TAKE IT IT WILL SURE GET STARES, OOHS AND AHHHHS....LIKE PARKING A SLEEK PORSCHE TURBO OUTSIDE THE HIPPEST NIGHT CLUB. NOW THE BAD PART: WHEN YOU PLACE THE IPAD ON THE ARM AND TRY TO TAP IT WITH YOUR FINGER (OR STYLUS, LIKE I DO) YOU WILL EXPERIENCE A SLIGHT BOUNCE BACK. THE HINGES ARE TIGHT (BUT NOT TOO TIGHT THAT YOU CAN'T FOLD IT) AND THE ARM CAN EXTEND QUITE A BIT FROM THE MAIN BODY (HOVERING THE IPAD FAR OUT AWAY). THIS WILL CAUSE A SLIGHT SPRINGING MOTION WHEN THE IPAD IS DEPRESSED, TAPPED OR PUSHED DOWN ON. IT IS NOT A VERY BIG SPRING BACK AND AFTER A WHILE YOU WILL NOT NOTICE IT MUCH BUT IT IS THERE. I JUST TAP LIGHTLY. BUT THE REALLY WORRISOME PART ARE THE HINGES. THEY ARE TIGHT NOW BUT HOW ABOUT IN THE FUTURE, WHEN YOU HAVE OPENED AND CLOSED THE DEVICE A THOUSAND TIMES? WILL THEY STILL BE ABLE TO HOLD THE IPAD TIGHTLY OR WILL THE HINGES "CREEP" OUT OF ALIGNMENT? ONLY TIME WILL TELL. NOW, I AM NOT AN ENGINEER BUT I DO RECALL SEEING A DEVICE YEARS AGO IN THE NAVY THAT LOOKED JUST LIKE THE R1 ARM BUT INSTEAD OF A NUT AND BOLT TYPE ARRANGEMENT IT HAD TINY GEARS INSIDE THE PART THAT LOOKS LIKE THE BOLT. ONE ONLY HAD TO DEPRESS THE LEFT AND RIGHT "NUT" AREAS TO RELEASE THE GEAR MECHANISM INSIDE THE LENGTH OF THE BOLT AREA THEN POSITION THE ARM TO DESIRED POSITION THEN RELEASE THE SPRINGY LEFT AND RIGHT NUT AREA. THIS WOULD LOCK THE GEARS IN PLACE. YOU COULD STAND ON THE ARM AND THE THING WOULD NOT MOVE. I HOPE THE DESIGNERS OF THE R1 CAN COME UP WITH SOMETHING SIMILAR IN THE FUTURE. BUT FOR NOW, THE R1 IS IDEAL FOR ME. IT IS LIGHT BUT ROBUST....ONLY TIME WILL TELL IF I PURCHASED A SOLID GOLD PRODUCT OR FOOLS GOLD. I GIVE THIS PRODUCT A 4 STAR RATING ONLY FOR THE UNCERTAINTY OF FUTURE PROBLEMS WITH CREEPING JOINTS. IN TWO YEARS FROM NOW IF THE HINGES ARE STILL TIGHT I WILL AMMEND THIS REVIEW AND GIVE IT A 5 STAR RATING. BUT FOR THE PRICE, I SAY BUY IT!!!!! Read more
