This portable drive has 5T storage capacity. It will work with Macs and uses Mac's Time Machine application. I had some trouble setting it up on two Mac laptops I own. I called tech support and they are terrific. I had to call several times for different issues on each machine and they were extremely helpful. First, they call you back within a few minutes. They are patient, professional, polite, and extremely knowledgeable about their drive and about the Mac operating system. So, they walked me through very specific steps that I could easily follow and for each issue, they were able to find a solution such that the drive now works on both machines and automatically backs up the system as soon as the drive is plugged in. The cost of the drive is very reasonable for the amount of storage it provides. Although I had to call tech support several times, I'm glad I did and glad to have this external storage for backup. I own several external hard drives and out of all of them only the Seagate ones have been trouble-free. They just work and keep on working. I have small form factor (2-1/2") portable USB hard drives in sizes from 1 TB to 4 TB, and they've all given trouble free service. I love to have seagate hard drives. Also i would recommend my friends to go for seagate hard drives. It is different from other storage drives, as the speed of the drive is very unique when we compare with other drives. I have had exemplary service from this drive although I do not expect data recovery under the limited warranty nor do I expect a spinning drive (not SSD) to transfer data live a supercomputer. I am a simple person needing simple reliability for simple backups of my simple laptop and desktop. Something to grab in case of fire or hide incase of theft. EZ-PZ. If the third round of economic incentive checks ever materializes I ma buy two more and set up my NAS box. Wouldn't THAT be cool? Yep Yep Yep. Read more
I've had good results with Seagate drives before and this seems to be just as reliable. It may be of interest to some people that it is a third the size of my other 5TB drives... My new iMac has no problems with it; I don't use some of the supplemental software that came with the drive. The device works with the USB 3.0 hub I bought recently, which is a real plus as some of my other drives won't. It is as fast as I'd hoped, moving large files quickly; I make archival-quality photo scans of 50MB and it effortlessly moves folders crammed with images. So I've been using this device for about a year. Then I noticed that intermittently it would not appear in Explorer. It's plugged in, why isn't it working. Well, after literally months of this, I'm just now figuring out that it's the cord that goes from the unit to the USP port that's causing an issue. It's not secure, kind of wiggles. I don't want to get another unit because the stupid connection doesn't work but what use is the drive if it won't boot up. Unfortunately, my availability to have tech support ended just a mere 10 days ago. Not sure what to do at this point. So, just check that your cord is really tight and secure if you buy this device. If not, return it and look for another brand. Read more
I use this external hard drive daily for work. Our server at work is typically not accessible when I work from home, so saving files on the server is not worth the headache of repairing that ongoing issue. Thus, I use this hard drive every day. It's small and easy to take back & forth from work & home. It's fast, has more storage than I could ever use, and it's a quality product that has continued to work as intended for over 3 years. And you can't beat the price for that. (Especially since I'm hard on things; it's been dropped a bunch and thrown in my briefcase daily). Read more
I got an awesome deal on this HD during a Black Friday sale and couldn’t be happier with my purchase! I formatted it to work with both Mac and PC which was extremely easy to do. I transferred roughly 160GB of stuff from my laptop in a fraction of the time it takes to transfer things to my WD hard drive! To be fair, my WD hard drive is a little older.
